...that gave you $5000 to spend on sewing stuff (from sewing stores), what would you do?

I think I'd have a hard time spending it to be honest, I wouldn't want to waste it and would quibble about what to buy!

Hmmm...
A new sewing machine, embroidery machine, .... I think I would have a machine makeover :) Of course there are some fabrics I'd like too.

A coverhemmer! And maybe a really nice sewing machine too. And an embroidery machine. And lots and lots of Alexander Henry fabrics. I'm obsessed with those lately!

I'd probably spend it at a sewing machine repair shop.... I need to get all my machines in working order... all nine of them. My singer 500 is screwed up again. :( I'm now borrowing my mom's featherweight to do what little sewing I can get done with the kids around and getting in to everything.

A solid basic serger, an old treadle machine for doing leather and heavyweight materials and a really good plus-size dressform. Then a great big rotary cutting mat, a set of high-end scissors (Gingher how I adore thee...), and a new sewing basket/bin and some trays for organization.

Once I had all that (if there was any money left) it'd be all about the fabric. Bolts of the pricier basics (gauze, lawn, linen, silk chiffon, plain black suitweight wool), and of the basic-basics (muslin, cotton broadcloth) and patterncloth. One of those Guttermann thread cabinets with 100 colors.

If there was still money left I'd get a real snap press with 14, 16, and 20 dies, then I'd clean up with lengths of whatever nice calicos and other fabrics caught my eye that day.

Man, now I'm all fantasizing...

This one's easy. An embroidery machine and a super duper supply of embroidery thread. A quilting machine, a dressform and I'd spend the rest on storage stuff.

you are such an enabler!! where did you get all the ideas to try to make me want to spend money???LOL
i would get an emb. machine, some of the higher end fabric that i never buy, some cool trims, a table, storage (some of this would go for nonsewing items to give more room in my sewing area) and i don't know what else.

I would buy wool, silk, cotton, thermo lining, and whatever else I might need to cover these old, cold windows. Did I mention we have 61 in this house!

And my machines need a tune-up.

ebd machine, cover stich and snap press. I'd also like an old machine to handle the bulky stuff!

I've been thinking about this all night and decided I'd just hire a seamstress. LOL. I can't get squat done around here.

Where do I pick up my check?

I honestly don't have a clue.

Sewing stores is my hang up.

Some IKEA's have fabric so would they count?

Would the fabric district count?

Or is this more like a JoAnn's, RepoDepot, local sewing shop sort of thing.

I'd likely end up buying stuff I don't want or need with those restrictions. But if I had it I'd have to spend it ya know.

I'd end up going page by page/isle by isle and randomly picking stuff and adding and subtracting until I hit the total.

What I'd really want to do is redo my "sewing room" you know the one that is also used as a kids study, computer room, play room, tv room, family room, dogs room? I'd like to start from scratch and redo the floor and walls and furnish it from the ground up. I'm cool with my low end machines that do what I want (99% of the time) and my collection of thread (once my latest shipment from Serena arrives) I'd likely need more than 5 grand but it would be fun to try.

Hmmm let's see... I'd buy an embroidery machine and all of the necessities, a new computer (I need that for the emb machine, you know?), a new coverhemmer, a child's dress form.... And all the MUNKI I want. :D

I'm pretty happy with the machines I have so I'd add a coverhem to it. I'd also get a cutting table and a different sewing table. Oh and something better to keep my notions in.

A new sewing machine and a coverhemmer definitely. Maybe an emboidery machine. A nicer iron. A big rotary mat. A cutting table. Some minky fabric, good solid knits & lycra knits, and some cool wovens.

Now there would be nowhere in my house to fit any of this, except the new sewing machine.

Add a small sewing area/room to the house --But if it's just at fabric stores, a top of the line professional as I can afford embroidery machine.

then get in line behind Katie following my new best friend Stacy around LOL
