My sis says that those special polycarb(?) bottles are actually very bad about leaching, too. Has anyone used a SS bottle that they like? Are they available for less than an arm and a leg? I could use one for TKD!

I got some Eddie Bauer ones at Target today. They are $4.99. They do have plactic lids/spouts, but you could take the lid all the way off to drink if you wanted to.

I had not seen those at Target. I will have to look. As for the plastic I keep hearing conflicting info. There was a study in the last two years that said the Nalgene and Lexan #7 bottles were safe if not used in the dishwasher. Supposedly they don't leach unless they are broken down by harsh detergents. However, I keep seeing things that say #7 does leach. Mothering magazine had something this month on plastics and said #7 is not safe. They didn't mention the two names of the plastics in particular.

If I reacall what I was just reading the other ay regarding recycling, #7 is the generic plastics number, a #7 could be one of several different types of plasics, unlike all the other numbers which represent 1 type of plastic. Will have to hunt that down if someone needs more detail.

We have Sigg bottles here that I got from a fellow on e-bay. My 1 liter was $25, but well worth it. I use it constantly & it keeps my water at a reasonable temp. even after sitting in the sun in the car while I'm grocery shopping (at least 1 hour). I do with I had a larger 1.5 liter one because we frequently need to refil during a long day out if DD doesn't bring her .5 liter as well.

I have seen a few other stainless bottles at Gander Mountain in the camping section & of course you could ask them to order a bunch at your local health food store. At least one of ours keeps the Kleen Kantiens on the shelves.

My 1 liter Sigg bottle was $13 + $4 shipping from Michelle at GreenTaraMama. I belong to her pre-order group and this was an instock special.

I am wary of the bottles I see at Kmart, etc. because I don't know what they are lined with, if they are lined with anything. If they are straight aluminum I don't think they are any better than plastic.

I love my kleen kanteen bottles. I think they are a very good investment. I just wish they had smaller sizes for kiddos.

Cool! Thanks! I think I'll check Target for those Eddie Bauer ones first! Was that a sale price or reg? Were they in sporting goods?

That's definitely a Sigg bottle, and at a great price too.

I just ordered two of the sigg bottles in the Sierra Trading link. We needed a couple more.

The bottles at Target- I don't know what they are made of or what they are lined with. They are in sporting goods where all the coolers/lunch bags/thermoses and other water bottles are.

Sigg bottles are great - they come in various sizes and patterns (not essential for the safety of the beverage, but a nice bonus.) Kleen Kanteens are nice too - I hear they are coming out with smaller sizes soon.

I just came across the SIGG bottles not too long ago and they are great. I'm really loving ours, and some of the kids patterns are just too cute!

I looked at teh Eddie Bauer bottles at Target. They appear to be Sigg bottles with EB name on them. They are made in China but aren't the Sigg bottles also? They tops are more cheaply made. But, the bottle itself looks identical to my Sigg. I am going to do more research.

According to their website, it is a taste inert, food compatible stove enamel which is elastic to prevent cracking should the bottle be dented.

I haven't seen the oens at target...sounds like an awesome deal, though! Honestly, I think ss is the only really and truly safe bottle to use. SIGG bottles don't sound any safer to me than plastic because they have aluminium, which causes alzheimer's disease. Yes, it's coated, but I don't want to drink out of a A.D. coated bottle, LOL!

I got a ss bottle made by the Thermos brand...much cheaper than sigg, too!

What is the best place to get stainless steal bottles?

Are the Eddie Bauer ones stainless steal or aluminium?
