My little girl, she's 5, had a bought with gastro-enteritis (SP?) about a week ago. She's gotten over the not so pretty parts of the sickness but everytime she eats she says she has a tummy ache....badly. Before she got sick she said quite often that she had a tummy ache...not as badly as this though. I'm not sure what's up with her...if it's left over from the sickness, if she's got a food allergy I'm missing...? She's also informed me that she's dead against going to the doctor for this....she's never never said that she didn't want to go to the doctor when she wasn't feeling well before. As a matter of fact it's me trying to convince her 9 times out of 10 when she's sick that she'll be just fine not going to the doctor. I'm not sure what's up and I really feel helpless right now. *sigh* Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Little ones (and bigger ones too) can catch on the stomach issues are taboo to some people. She may be feeling that and may not want to talk to someone about the. How is her growth? How are her bowel movements -- frequent, bulky, smelly, small, floating, etc? All these can indicate a variety of problems. Also, have you done any probiotics since her illness to re-populate her natural flora?

Well her growth is just fine. I'm guessing it's just some left over stomach stuff. It's gotten a bit better the past day or so. She seems to be a small bit constipated since the stomach sickness. Her bm's are quite bulky and not floaty. and no we've not done the pro-biotics....would soy yogurt be helpful in this area? I'm not sure if insurance would pay for the chiropractics...I'll have to check on this.

If it continues on (you'd mentioned that she c/o stomach aches before the GE bout), also consider investigating food allergies . . . IGG mediated allergies act like this (as opposed to the IGE mediated, anaphylactic type allergies).

Some of those illnesses can cause temporary lactose intolerance, and I assume other intolerances as well. Until the bacteria in her GI tract gets back to normal, she may have digestive troubles. I also think that the probiotics would be a good idea, to help her get back to normal. If soy yogurt has live and active cultures, like acidophilus and bifidus, it should help.
Good luck! And I hope she feels better soon.

I know I'm a little late to this, but I wanted to suggest giving her some Manuka honey. Whenever anyone in my family is sick we start manuka - just a teaspoon of it, 3 times a day.
