We have four trees in our yard, and there are several on the land across the street. The apples are all small and dimpled, but I haven't found any worms inside the ones I've cut experimentally. The non-scarred, non-dimpled bits are good for cutting out and eating, but a lot of the apple seems wasted. I wondered if I could safely make applesauce with these apples without having to cut them to bits first. Has anyone done this? I intend to cook them up and then put them through a food mill. I would cut each one to make sure there are no occupants. :D Just wondering if anyone else has done this, and what the results were like. Next year I'm going to use kaolin spray and red balls on my trees to see if it helps keep the bugs down. But for this year I'm looking for the supercrunch use for these bumpy, dimply, ugly apples! Any ideas?

My MIL and I do this all the time! :) She has 5 apple trees and we grab all the windfall apples, and yukky ones, and use them for apple sauce. It is perfectly good and tastes wondeful!!

Do you cut out any of the spots first, or do you not worry about them? If you do, what are your criteria? ;-)
