My left needle on my serger keeps breaking!1 I thot I was using to many layers, but it dd it with 3 stinkin' layers. It looks like the top layer is going above the knife, instead of under it, could that be the problem??

If the top layer is going above the knife (upper knife?) you may still have it too thick. What kind of fabric are you trying to serge? Sometimes if the blade is dull it will kick the fabric up instead of cutting it. I can always tell this with hemp it looks like it was chewed off instead of cut nice and sharp when you take out the serging and look at it. Also you might try stitching the fabric together at the very edge before you serge it. It might help.

I had some more thoughts on this. I focused more on the cutting of the fabric when you said the needle keeps breaking. Are you using heavy enough needles for the fabric you are trying to serge? Is it the outside needle or the one near the knife? Maybe your machine has jumped time and the needle is hitting the lower looper needle or something like that. I had a serger that had a problem and it was the timing off that was causing it.A trip to the local sewing machine store for a tune up fixed the problem. Check everything, make sure the threads are catching on something, that can break a needle. If the fabric isn't cutting and is folding under or makeing more layers in an area that could break your needle. Take the thread off and floss the tension dials, oil and clean the machine, run it without thread and see if the needle still breaks. If it doesn't re-thread and try again. If it does then there might be a problem with the timing or some other mechanical problem.

Well I figured it out, my presserfoot was /is the culprit. Do you know the little "pin" that is on it to hold it on the machine? It broke and made the presser foot tilt and my needle kept catching it  Now I need a new presser foot :eyes: Can I use one of the others until I find a replacement? Can you buy these at JOAnn? ( I have a White 2000 ATS) Thanks:)
