You know, with one of those plug in heat pen things?

I'd like to make a sign with the name of my house, a picture of a tree, and a saying on it. Custom signs are too expensive for me! With a coupon, I can get a large wood plaque and a tool at Michaels for less than $20.

I'm thinking of doing the layout on the computer, printing it out and then transferring it onto the wood with transfer paper.

Anyway, I'm wondering how hard it is to do. Does it take a lot of practice to make neat looking letters? I just want a sign, not a new hobby, kWIM? If there's a huge learning curve, or it takes forever to do a project like a sign, maybe I should try something else.

Any tips?

Thanks,
Rebecca

My dd does this, we have two sets. When she comes down stairs I'll ask her. It seems pretty easy and super fun!

I love woodburning. It is super simple. You can certainly improve with practice and get better at shading and textures, but you should be able to get your sign done easily without a lot of hassle especially if you buy a basswood plaque and don't have to fight a heavily grained piece of wood.

this is one of those things I've always wanted to try but have never gotten around to. I'd love to hear how it goes! :)
