For those of you who are ahead of me (one 3 month old), what did you do for pictures....newborn...3 months...6 months....? all professional? really nice ones? sears/jc penny? no professionals?

Feeling sad that i didn't get really cool professional newborn pictures made, and just wanted to see what everyone else did...maybe to get some ideas for the future...maybe to feel better...maybe to feel worse if everyone responds that they got nice newborn pics taken!

Oh...and if you have portrait studios like JC Penny, Sears, Wal-Mart...let me know if you were pleased...and if you found somewhere to be cheaper than another, etc.

FWIW Megyns newborn pics werent great, they stuck a hat on her, left a paci in her mouth(grrr) and snapped the pic. You could barely see her at all but she was my first baby and I really wanted pictures of her from the hospital-spent a small fortune. LUCKILY I snapped 2 quick pictures of her in her newborn outfit laying on my hospital bed the day we were coming home, the light was perfect coming in the window and you can see her little face so well. Its a BAD scan of a hard copy, but its my baby and I blew that pic up to an 8x10 and proudly displayed it no matter how grainy it came out lol. James I was ready for, I told them no hat, no paci and we got decent hospital pics-spent a small fortune. Mark, I took my own pic in the hospital and it turned out better than the other 2 lol and saved HUGE.

I take mostly my own pics(see the other thread about doing baby stuff)
BUT
I do go to Sears at 3 1/2 mos and have them take pics. I order one pose and I order this combo thing(3 poses on a cool collage looking thing) then thats it for professional pics
The reason I go at 3 1/2 mos is because they dont have teeth yet and I like one super great picture of them with the gummy grin (my kids usually pop a tooth in at around 4 mos) and for the consistancy thing I mentioned in the other thread.

I love Sears, but take coupons. I have a friend who goes to JC Penny once a month! And she loves them(but also takes tons of coupons and never lets them talk her into more than she planned on getting) Wal Mart, in my experience is a good bargain, but not very professional imo. I have a hard time getting in on my appt time, the lady/man doing the picture taking doesnt always interact with the kids well but I do get a TON of pics cheap. So if you have lots and lots of family to send to that might be your least expensive option.

I could talk about pictures forever *paranoid*

I didnt feel comfortable taking my newborn to get professional photos taken till he was a month old.

I did 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 months that plus halloween and winter holiday the 1st year. Halloween and Winter Holiday are family and individual.

after that one professional for the birthday

the 1st year is expensive but its so worth it

I had pictures taken at 6 weeks and spent waaaay too much. The good news is that there was a small error on the pictures (hardly noticable) and so they are going to give me my next package for free..so I need to get her back in there soon. I've taken a ton of pictures with my digital camera as well and those have come out better honestly

I take them occasionally to Sears. And while the quality is okay, and the price is good with a coupon, it's hit or miss with the personnel. There's one scarey lady there.
I tried to get a 6 week old and a 2 year old to cooperate for photos once. That was an exercise in futility. We'll probably try to get professional pictures once a year as they grow up.

I'd rather spend my time taking more candid shots my self. For Cole I took photos every week for his first year and I plan on doing the same for Truman. I have (or will once I finish transfering the site) a website that I use to post photos for our family.

thanks for the ideas. i am going to make something happen! i think i'll do sears with coupons soon and just get a couple to mark time and then figure out what else i'll do from there. i'm not good at taking pictures and have seen so many professional pics that i like...of course some of them cost so much more than i could afford. here's hoping for a good photographer at the local sears portrait studio, huh? anyway...first baby...maybe i'll get it out of my system. i'm not HAVING to do the same thing for all of my kids, so maybe i will decide that professional pics aren't necessary...

if i could get a professional to photograph my children in the 'non traditional' way...i would. i just don't like the same ol' same ol' poses and backgrounds.

something different and professional (like what the gibsons did)would rock! (but that is wayyyyyy out of my budget)

We go to picture people at the mall

We usually get coupons in the mail for free sittings and 1 free page of photos its like $30 per pose for an 8x10 2 5x7s and a page of wallets. can buy 1 post set and make copies

I asked for picture people gift cards for my shower gifts, this helps

we go to a local place called portrait innovations - their package isn't expensive. So far, Leila had her hospital photo done and we took all 3 kids Sat. to get pictures done.
