UPDATED:

Thank you all for your support and for leting me know this is normal! As sad as it is, it helps to know I'm not alone.

I feel like a new woman this morning!! He slept from 8-2 am (!!!!), ate, then slept until 5 am, then ate and slept until 6, then sort of ate and sort of slept until 7!!! My boobs were so full that I wet my shirt and the sheets!

-----------------

Please know the following:

1. I am aware Jonathan is still an itty bitty babe
2. I bfeed on demand
3. We family bed
4. I do not expect him to sleep through the (my) night until he is way, way older (Lauren didn't until 15 months).

That said, this is a "typical" night for Jonathan:

8:00 p.m. asleep
11:00 p.m. nurse
1:00 a.m. nurse (okay so far, here's where it gets ugly)
2:30 a.m. nurse
3:30 a.m. nurse
4:30 a.m. nurse
5:30 a.m. nurse and usually does not go back to sleep until around 6:30-7:00 a.m. by which point I'm up for the day.

That is typical/minimum he wakes a night. Right now he is sick so it is not surprising that he's waking hourly or less the entire night.

I'm sick with sleep deprivation. It's probably illegal for me to drive a car I'm so tired. Sometimes I can't hear him for a few minutes because I'm so tired that I'm not waking up. Sometimes I'm so tired that I almost fall asleep during the day when at home alone with both kids. I'm not depressed at all, I'm just really, really tired.

Lauren didn't do this. She'd wake a "reasonable" three times a night.

Help?

I'm sorry to say in my experience it's normal. What helps here is popping Sylvie off and pulling down my shirt (if I'm awake) as soon as she dozes. The nipple in her mouth or very close to it seems to encourage more frequent nursing. Also, we ec and when she does that, she needs to pee. So, if I can wake enough and potty her, she'll settle back down. Is he wet? If you change him, will he go longer?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It is so hard. Can you semi-doze on the couch with Jonathan while Lauren plays? Like closed eyes, but alert ears?

well not every hour but around 10-12 weeks sully was waking at 3 am and not going back to sleep until 7 am & my girls are up generally around 7:30-9 am so i know how you feel. hopefully when he gets to feeling better that pattern will change also. also he has been going to sleep @ 9 pm and waking every 40 min or so until midnight during the week for dh ( i work m-f evenings) and it caught up with dh ,he wrecked our new (used) van 2 wks ago because he fell asleep @ the wheel. So please be careful mama.

Sounds like Ella...and sounds like that's when he's doing his cluster feeding. That's why you'll see me online at 3 in the am. I'm still figuring out latch so I'm not so good at nursing laying down, and this babe has reflux so I have to make sure I burp her well.

I digress (see! I'm tired too LOL)...

These are the things I am doing with Ella (does it work? oh, i dunno! :P)

I take her out in the sunshine about 2x a day.
I give her a bath at aroun 8: 30 pm and a massage afterwards
I try to wake her to nurse duiring the day more often.

My other 2 didn't do this either. So I am just shooting off the hip here. But I am trying everything to help :) .

2 things--
when his tummy gets a little bigger it will get better-- he will be able to hold a little more and stay asleep a little longer. that is until the next growth spurt, lol

second, he is def doing a cluster feed then-- try and encourage it earlier in the day. About 5pm start nuring him as often as he will take it-- every 45 min if you can. From this I would guess he takes a fairly long morning nap??

not so much, he actually takes a very long afternoon nap. I actually think that he starts his nighttime sleep around 2pm. He'll happily sleep from 1/2 for about 4 hours.
