I've been working on this belt since May and I'm almost finish. Need to put cowrie shells on the hanging trim and add another belt tie on the front but wanted to show you anyway. There were many items hand sewn like the middle coins, bells, beads, shells.Yes, I am crazy. Erika

Will show you one in full regala next sat. has I and 30 other girls will be in the Festival of Cultural Exchange parade. I have made a skirt, top, coin belly drape , coin bra drape , hair pieces w/flowers & shells, tikka, earrings, necklace, hair sticks. I am even putting a bellydance outfit in the Topsham Fair that I will have to show you girls ugh-I couldn't give them the whole manequin -they didn't want the legs so its sitting on the bottom part so it looks like the belt is too big since it should be sitting on the hips not waist:monkeydan -lol. ErikaI have the back pinned where I'll have to make it smaller so it shows the criss cross -I'll just embroider it so I don't have to take it apart. Nothing drowns creativity than having to pull out stitches or take something apart.

Wow, that is amazing!!!! I can't wait to see the pic of the full costume. It seems to take forever to make doesn't it? Crazy, yes but a labour of love. lol
I started my first belt many months ago. The belt i'm making is cabarat style but would like to make a tribal costume next. I'm also just finished putting trim on my circle skirt and am still working on the bra as well. Where do you get your coins from?

Thank you all mamas. I do love making this-its so fun plus I love dressing up-I'm a Halloween junkie!!!lol

original qoute by mikaylasmama-Where do you get your coins from?
I got the coins from walmart -the one with the trim. I took some of the trim
and sewed them by themselves. I also put a coin necklace on the bottom middle. You can coins from ebay-light ones in gold or silver. You can also get the Kutchi coins that are heavier. If you are interested I can e-mail you with lots of links to belly dance places for items.I'm obessed. I also learned how to drill my own coins now and will place a pic here with a coin bra and belly drape.

Would love to see your bra and belt. They do take forever. I love the cabaret style but feel more comfortable in the tribal. I think of all these cabaret belly dancers as elegant and sophisticated-which I'm not.Erika

That is so lovely. I've been repeatedly drooling at Black Tassle trying to convince myself if I buy the cowries and coins that I'll actually do my belt lol. I'm really impressed. I'd love those links if you get a minute (so I can keep drooling and convince myself to brave the project)

Thnks for the info on where to get coins. I would love some belly dance links. I don't think i suit cabaret style either but that is the only type of costume i had seen when i was starting to make mine. I did a photo shoot for my teacher and borrowed one of her costumes and i loved the gwazzee(?) vest etc. I think tribal is more my style but i shall finish the one i'm working on first since i already have many months invested in sewing and beading. I would love to see pics of the coin bra and i will post pics when i am closer to being done.

Thats what inspired me was seeing all the beautiful belts around but not able to shell out 200.00 dollars for one. You can do it. Take it one step at a time and you can. Erika

[B]I started it back in May and did a little every other day or when ever I had a moment to myself(at 12 midnight most of the time)-As soon as I get the outfit ready for the fair this thurs or fri(this outfit would be too hot for the outdoor show) I will model for you. Its getting mugging so I won't wear it this weekend. I also show you the brocade skirt , brocade gahwazee vest, brocade top and coin belly drape and coin belly bra drape too.Erika
