UPDATE 12:15am 7/22: Both kinds completely sold out before I could complete everyone's orders. Sorry! :( If you did not get any or all that you wanted, I will be trying to get another roll next time it is run, but that may be a month or more. I will keep you in mind though if any of the sales fall through. Thanks for all the interest mamas! When all is said and done close to 600 yards are going out. Whew! Glad I could get ahold of some again and be able to share it with you all. :smooch:

UPDATE 10pm 7/21: I'm going to close this for now because I think I am getting close to the end of both types. I will post the rest of the totals tomorrow afternoon as well as any leftovers if there are any. Thanks!

I have been asked to do a co-op/sale for this plastic that I use for tracing patterns. My dh was able to buy a roll this past weekend from his work. It is only run every other month or so so quantities are limited, but there are a lot of yards on a roll so it will probably be enough for everyone who wants some.

It is all I have been using for tracing patterns for about a year now (along with a sharpie ;)). I love it because it is thin and folds easily for storage, is durable, is wide so no taping pieces together required for tracing adult clothing patterns, blah, blah, blah. I could go on, but I will let the other mamas who have gotten bits from me tell you what they think.

It is 50” wide. (edited - I thought it was 54", but it is actually only 50")

SOLD OUT Smooth 15¢/yard
SOLD OUT Textured 20¢/yard

Plus shipping to you and a $1.00 cut fee per order to cover paypal fees, shipping supplies, etc.

There are over 6 yards in a pound if you want to take that into consideration when deciding how much you want.

Here’s a pic so you can see how easily you can see through it to trace.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/dolph_heights/seethru.jpg

I have two types available - smooth and textured.

Smooth:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/dolph_heights/smooth.jpg

Textured (if you look really closely you can see tiny diamonds) - it’s not a rough texture, just really fine:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v167/dolph_heights/diamonds.jpg

I have more of the smooth than the textured. Both are great, but I really like the textured because it kind of grips the fabric while you are cutting. I don’t really know how to describe them other than that.

Post here if you would like any and how much you want along with your zip (or pm me your zip if you prefer).

Let me know if you have any questions.

ETA: I'm going to let a few orders come in before I start cutting. It is a PITB to work with because the roll weighs over 60 pounds, lol, but I will get totals later on today as I can and post them here. Thanks mamas!

ETA2: I have never tried to fold 20 yards up before so I'm not sure how easy that will be. 10 yards is very doable so your yardage may come in more than one piece if you order more than 10 yards.

This stuff is awesome! Becky sent me a sample of it and I was begging her for more ;) I've used everything under the sun for tracing and had finally decided I was going to use expensive interfacing forever until she sent me some of this. I really like it and it makes tracing Ottobre a breeze! Very durable too.

Can I please have 20 yards of the textured if there's enough? Thanks :)

I'm done cutting up through arasmama. I will definitely run out of the textured before I get to the end of the list. Mamas that were willing to take either I am going to split and give half taxtured and half smooth so that the textured can be shared by more mamas.

I'll post totals through arasmama at the bottom of the original post. I'll work on the rest still this afternoon, but most likely I won't get any more totals until tomorrow.

Honestly, you mamas have blown me away. I was thinking maybe 5 or 6 people would want a few yards - I never imagined there would be this much interest.

I'll get to answering any questions that were asked after I get the totals so far posted.

Thanks,

I read the whole thread and I can't resist either

Is it possible to fold up 10 or so yards and jam it into a flat rate envie? Or does it have to go in larger packaging? If you can do an envie I'll take 10ish yds. If you need to pack another way I'll take 20 yds, textured or smooth...or both :D 19606 and I'd prefer parcel post or whatever's cheap, it kills me to pay the PO so much. Thanks so much for doing this, hope I'm not too late.

How big is a roll? I might be interested in a whole roll next time they run it, if you can swing it.

The rolls are 50" long (edited to say 50" instead of 54") and range in diameter depending on how much is left on it. Weight can range from 50-100 pounds. The roll I got was 70 pounds and was about 10"-12" across probably.

It is scrap from them starting up a run of a certain order they get every couple of months. I'm not sure how to ship something like that, lol, but I imagine it would be pretty price-y. If you're interested and have any ideas about shipping I can have my dh check and see if he can put dibs on a roll the next time they run it. Just LMK.

I'd be interested in a roll if/when they become available. Prefer textured and a smaller roll but lmk when you find out. :)

I'll see what I can do (or rather, I'll have my dh see what he can do, lol), but this is the first time in a year that he has been able to get me any of the textured. He brought home a small sample last spring and hasn't been able to get any more since. He surprised me with this over the weekend.

The smooth is easier to get because it is the beginning roll of a textured run, but they run the smooth to get it running right before they drop the embosser. The only reason the textured was available this time was because they had a problem mid-run and had to cut and start the roll over.

Also, typically there is only going to be one roll available at a time because it is just the start up roll, but he is going to keep an eye out for when the jobs are going to be run again and hope for a screw up in the middle of the run, lol, so we can get more textured. These are just scrap rolls so he can get them at a really cheap price, but the price of a 'good' roll would be much higher and I'm not even sure that employees can buy the 'good' stuff.

Sorry, for rambling on, lol.

You know, I just went and looked at my co-op that I bought from and I paid $7.50/yd!! I am dying to know how similar these are. Gosh I hope they're not very similar or I'm going to be totally kicking myself for paying like 1000% more. ROFL

Actually, I'm sure it's different and was produced for different purposes all together. The stuff I'm getting was said to be .010 thickness and is 40" wide.

So, do you have anymore available and if you do can you just shove the whole lot in a FRB? I'd take 10-20 yards more in that case. :) If there are still people waiting to get some, then nevermind. I just thought I'd try to save on shipping. I go through tracing medium like crazy!!

Thanks mama.

10 mils is pretty thick meagan. I use something a little thinner than that and it is really nice for diapers templates because you can run your pen around it very easily. What Becky has is much thinner, flimsier (but not in a bad way). Very nice for patterns for clothing where you're cutting around the pattern vs. drawing.

Does that make you feel better? :)

DH called from work when he got there this evening and said the job sheet was still there and it is .0025 mil so it's thinner and about 10" wider than the stuff you are getting from the co-op. I'm sure they are very different. You'll have to let me know how they compare when you get both of them.

I still need to work on cutting the smooth, but I won't get through that until tomorrow afternoon. I'll know then if there is any left. I'm thinking it's getting pretty close as it is and I think I am going to cut off any new orders until I know for sure what is left, if any.

I think the limit on a frb is about 30 yards, but when I am done cutting and filling orders up to this point I will fit whatever else I can in your box and let you know. :)

Very cool, thank you guys. I was sure they were quite different but boy oh boy the price was enough to make me think twice about what I already bought. LOL I did buy the thicker stuff for diaper templates though, so this is perfect. :)

Becky, I will take the extra yardage if you end up having it. Just whatever will fit in a FRB. JLMK if that works out ~ otherwise I would be happy enough with the 20 yards. Thanks :)

I didn't have enough of the textured, but I can send you 10 textured and 10 smooth if that works for you. If that's okay, you can find your total in the OP.

I stuffed 10y of the smooth into a flat rate envie for you. Your total is in the OP.

Very sweet of you to do this btw!

I got 10 yards in a flat rate envelope for you. :) Your total is in the OP.

Do you have 30 yards left? I was thinking I'd take a flat rate box full. :) cool!

I only had 20 yards left when I got to your order. If that is alright, your total is in the OP. :)

Margaret

Sorry Margaret, I ran out before I got to your order. :(

If anyone drops any, I'll let you know. You're first on the list.

would it be too much of a bother to ask you to stuff a flat rate with as much smooth as you think you can fit and give me a new total? Thanks sooooo much for doing this my dear :)

I ran out Alison before I could fill all the orders so there is nothing left. :( Sorry!

I ran out Meagan. Sorry!

Just out of curiosity, what is the plastic's original purpose? What kind of customers buy this stuff?

Thank you, Becky! And thank you to your wonderful dh!!!!!

Meagan~ The stuff we cooped is a stiffer sheet it wont fold into a box or anything. It was mylar and duralar and I am guessing this is poly like poly drawstring bags or plastic painting drop sheets?? Flimsy like that?!?!? I had to send the plastic sheeting we did in rolls because it wont bend.

:D

Definitely not flimsy like a painting drop cloth though. It's in the middle somewhere. I can't think of anything to equate it to. Maybe like a pretty heavy fusible interfacing? Not Timtex or bag interfacing though. You could fold several yards, but much more than that and you'd have to roll it. That's kind of how this stuff is.

Glad I could share with most everyone that wanted any. :)

DH doesn't know what they use this one for in particular, but he'll ask at work tonight and see if they know. The last order for this particular kind was 3 semis full. Some of the plastics they make are used for laminating carpet backing, bags, shrinkwrap, medical uses like surgical gowns, some are FDA approved for food usage, etc. They make all different kinds and thicknesses for a variety of purposes. I'll let you know if he finds out about this one in particular.

Thanks again mamas!

Just wanted to say that I got mine yesterday and so far I really like it. The feel of it anyway, I havne't used it.

I also got the thicker stuff for diaper templates the day before and it's much different.

If you decide to get some more of this, I would definitely be up for like 50 yards or so. Even with shipping, it's cheaper than buying $1/yd pattern-ease (which is what I use) and I think it will hold up better. Now I just need to figure out how to store the patterns once they're traced... Becky, do you fold the actual pattern peices? I remember you saying that it's "foldable" but I don't know if you were referencing that for shipping reasons. KWIM?

I fold them up and store them with the patterns in a manila envelope. It doesn't wear out from folding and unfolding like interfacing and paper can. There are some patterns I have used over and over and the pnly problem I have ever run into is that I tend to cut a hair off the pattern piece every once in a while and shrink the pattern down over time, but that is user error, lol.

That's why I love it so much is that it is durable and easy to store since it's not much thicker than paper, yk?

So you don't have creasing issues? I guess that's what I'm concerend about. Patternease is so nice that way because it rarely creases and when it does I just run the iron over it. Which obviously I can't do in this instance. LOL

I usually don't press the fold flat, kwim? But I have with some and if you fold it back the other way it usually lays good. I guess most of my pattern pieces are still so little though that I haven't dealt with a lot of folding either - usually they just slide into the manila envelope.
