Update: Everything was fine. It went just to the south of us. We got plenty of rain and lots of wind but thankfully no major damamge around here. The worst was that our power was off some yesterday. I can handle that!
I haven't heard how things are in Mexico but I'll know more when dh gets home from work today. I'm sure there was lots of flooding. They have such poor drainage systems over there. I can't imagine how bad it is to have the 125mph winds. The ones we had were bad enough at 50-60mph. I hope we don't have another one for a while. I can do without all the excitement and work that is involved in getting ready.
Well, Hurricane Emily is comming my way.
We have our windows boarded and food/water is ready. We still have to pick up a few things from the yard but other than that the kids are excited about having a hurricane party. Each time they update the location of the storm it moves slightly north so dh and I really think its going to hit right on the border. Even if it doesn't we will be getting a ton of rain. We are expecting up to 10ft ocean surge and 6-10in of rain. Thankfully we live off the coast enough that the surge won't affect us but the rain will. We waited in line for 1.5hrs yesterday for our 6 sandbags
The worst part is dh is at work right now. Since he is a manager at the plant he has to help secure all the machines and take measures to prevent losses. They are still running production till the last minute. I've really seen how the mighty dollar is more important to corporations than the safty and security of their workers. :wah: I'm not worried about dh but for the workers that live there in Matamoros and live in very poor conditions compared to us. That city floods with the littlest rain so everything will be covered in water. I feel so bad for the people there.
To keep this OT I havn't even started on the ufo challenge barb has going. Oh well, maybe once the party starts I can get something done before the power goes out.
I probably won't be on line much here until everything passes. I've been spending my few moments online at the hurricane center web site. I'll update as soon as I can. Hopefully the power won't be off for too long, but I do have ice in my freezer just in case we need it to stay cool for a while.
