Update: Everything was fine. It went just to the south of us. We got plenty of rain and lots of wind but thankfully no major damamge around here. The worst was that our power was off some yesterday. I can handle that!

I haven't heard how things are in Mexico but I'll know more when dh gets home from work today. I'm sure there was lots of flooding. They have such poor drainage systems over there. I can't imagine how bad it is to have the 125mph winds. The ones we had were bad enough at 50-60mph. I hope we don't have another one for a while. I can do without all the excitement and work that is involved in getting ready.

Well, Hurricane Emily is comming my way.

We have our windows boarded and food/water is ready. We still have to pick up a few things from the yard but other than that the kids are excited about having a hurricane party. Each time they update the location of the storm it moves slightly north so dh and I really think its going to hit right on the border. Even if it doesn't we will be getting a ton of rain. We are expecting up to 10ft ocean surge and 6-10in of rain. Thankfully we live off the coast enough that the surge won't affect us but the rain will. We waited in line for 1.5hrs yesterday for our 6 sandbags

The worst part is dh is at work right now. Since he is a manager at the plant he has to help secure all the machines and take measures to prevent losses. They are still running production till the last minute. I've really seen how the mighty dollar is more important to corporations than the safty and security of their workers. :wah: I'm not worried about dh but for the workers that live there in Matamoros and live in very poor conditions compared to us. That city floods with the littlest rain so everything will be covered in water. I feel so bad for the people there.

To keep this OT I havn't even started on the ufo challenge barb has going. Oh well, maybe once the party starts I can get something done before the power goes out.

I probably won't be on line much here until everything passes. I've been spending my few moments online at the hurricane center web site. I'll update as soon as I can. Hopefully the power won't be off for too long, but I do have ice in my freezer just in case we need it to stay cool for a while.

Lisa
I know how your feeling :eyes: . We went through two direct hits last year and it was a nightmare to say the least. The anticipation of the whole thing was almost the worst part. Hang in there, it might miss you all together. And if it goes north of you, you'll miss hardest winds.

Keep us posted

WE have had the last several hurricane hits here it feels like. I am about 2hrs in from the coast though, so mostly we gets 6-10in of rain and tons of trees down. Thankfully this last hurricane petered out to nothing almost as soon as it hit shore. DH's father is in Penscaola, and came up to ride it out with us. He was SOO worried after Ivan(they had 31 trees down during Ivan on about an acre). Thankfully not much happened this go around. Shopping for hurricane supplies is crazy though-- you go to where there are supposed to be batteries and there are like 6 packs of AA's left!!! No water bread or fruit to be found!

Anyway, I hope you guys make it through safely, and it looses strength like Dennis. Try nd stay dry!

thanks for all the well wishes.

They just upgraded it to a cat 3 and expect it to go to 4 before landfall. I'm just hoping it waits until the kids are asleep tonight so they aren't too scared.

We're already getting wind and some rain from it. I'll update as soon as I can after it is all over. Good Night lol!
