Olivia's cord fell off at about one week of age. Things seemed fine. Occasionaly she would pop it out crying, but all seemed well. Tiday I noticed that it is bleeding and looks pink (raw/fresh skin) "inside". Should i worry or will cleaning it with a little rubbing alcohol be enough?

simons cord did exactly the same --- ped used silver nitrate to dry it. simons bb is also slightly herniated-- dunno if it has anything to do w it or not??

how can you tell heather if it is herniated? I was afraid of this when she would cry and it would pop out. Could that cause an umbilicus hernia?

I would dab it with alcohol or golden seal but that's just me:) My other kids fell off with 4/5 days and Isabella's took 1 week 6 days but her cord was the only one that was clamped right away. 3 days before it fell off it started to smell something awful, I never did the alcohol thing because well I just didn’t think of it since the others came off so quick. I started to put it on at every change and it helped right away. Hers still seems to get a little crusty every other day or so I have been just doing it in the morning. I really don’t know if it helps but it makes me feel better.
