My breasts are large. And heavy. I can not for the life of me find a good, supportive, nursing bra that will last any amount of time. Can't use underwire in them as they always break or pop out. They become saggy and my breast is overflowing out the area b/t the flap and sid of bra, the plastic hook breaks, and I hate the hook and eye ones. :wah:
I really need a supportive (as in let's put my boobs back UP where they belong and not down by my waist) good nursing bra. I'd be willing to spend a little more if I knew it wasn't going to go in the trash in less than a month or so.
Does ANYONE have ANY suggestions... Please!!!!! :eyes:
Thanks,
Carey

I did a search for Medela Nursing Bras and came up with a specialty bra shop in my city. I went in and was fitted and was surprised by my size! Turns out I'm a 34DDD when I'd thought I was a 36DD. It's great to have a bra that really fits.
Maybe you can find a local store? If there isn't specifically a nursing bra retail store maybe you could have a professional bra fitter measure you so you'd know which size you currently need -- it can change a lot.
hth!

I know we don't have anything locally, but maybe I'll search and see if I can find any specialty bra shops near DC (any NOVA moms/DC moms know if there is? ). We used to have one here but it has been gone for years. When I measure the way they've told me on certain nursing bra sites or even the JCP catalog, I get this absolutely crazy big size. I tried ordering the size they said and it was way too big in the cup. I'll have to try measuring again as I've lost some weight. It is just so aggravating.
Thanks guys,
Love, Carey

I wear a 42 DD, Medela. They are strong and supportive. I think when I'm done nursing, I'll sew them together and take off the hooks. I love them.

If I remember right, I think the sales people at Victoria's Secret can measure you to help you find the right size. Granted, they probably aren't going to have your size if you aren't smaller breasted, but they should at the very least be able to help you find out your size.
I second the suggestion to go to a lingerie shop or something of the sort to have yourself measured :)
Also, we have a place here in WI called "Catherine's" and they carry all kinds of sizes. It's a plus sized store... ok, what the rest of the world considers plus sized... they carry size 14 and up. Personally my posterior will never fit in anything smaller than a 14...but that's a whole different thread, lol.
I'm not sure what size I am now up front... I'm a little nervous to find our, lol.

www.birthandbaby.com has a lot of bras and good info as well as how to measure and tips for each bra as far as fit, how to measure to get the best fit for each brand, etc.
There is one bra that sounds great, LOL, but it is $70! Yikes! I don't have $70 for a bra, although at the rate I'm going I'd better at least try it.
Thanks for all the suggestions/etc.

bras can be really expensive..but i consider it the way i consider a good pair of shoes. you wear it everyday and it really affects how you feel. so..you might have to pay a lot more for a good bra but won't it be worth it. $1.00 a day and you have paid for it in a little over 2 months!

Sometimes I think the department stores have a "foundation specialist" come in and do measurements for women. We have a store here called Intimates that will do that for you - already told dh that is where I am going for my birthday!

I went back and checked on that one bra I liked (they warned you that when you first put it on, not to look at it until you put on a shirt and look in a mirror. Evidently it puts your boobs back up where they belong, LOL--that is what I need :) ) and for my size it is only $44! I think I'm going to try it. I've lost a good bit of weight and am only a 42DD now and the bra is cheaper the smaller it is.
Here's hoping it works!

I tried that one and it didn't work for me. I ended up sending all but one back. And that one doesn't really work well. I REALLY hope you have better luck than me.

Well I am a 42 G!!!! LOL I went to jcpenny.com and measured according to them. So, you measure around right under your armpits for the band size (I always thought you measured BELOW your breasts) and I got 41 so I rounded up to 42. Then you measure around the fullest part of the breast and I got 47 inches, so that gave me 42 G. Except, I didn't want to order online, so I went shopping today and the 42 DD's seem to fit really well. So, what is up with that? I had to go to a zillion stores since they all only carry like 2 styles each. I got a soft cup one to try and I kinda like it. Anyhow, I too am happy that the girls are back up where they should be!!!!

OMGosh! I know! JCP had me at a 46 G I believe. I was truly a 44 DDD
I've lost weight since then and thus the 42 DD although I think I am between a DD and DDD.
Hmmm, so Amy that one bra jeunique or something didn't work for you? What shape breast do you have--according to that site. I consider my full pendulous. I just want something that will hold them up and not end up sagging.

I'm pretty sure that with band size we're supposed to round down, not up. So your 41 would really be a 40. Also, the bra lady at the specialty bra shop advised going down a band size and up a cup size. That's good advice, esp. with nursing breasts.
I'm starting to feel like my new thing is bra fit advocacy. lol  I want everyone's breasts comfortable and up where they belong!

They carry 150 sizes (like 54L!)and different fabrics for whatever kind of support you want. No underwire. They have nursing bras with either hook and eye or velcro closure, or if you want you can just buy a non-nursing bra and pull it to the side. This works best with the less supportive bras. (like cotton rather than velour) If the bra doesn't fit you can send it back and they'll fix it. You also get free adjustments for a year (so like if you drop a cup size or two, you can get it redone). Lots of different colors or even organic cotton. The shipping is included in the price, which ranges from about $30-$65.
Bra size, IMO, is really dependent on whose bra you're buying and how they want you to measure. I mean, a 34C and a 36B are not all that different.

I'm full pendulous, too. Nothing has worked. I'm saggin' like you can't believe. It stinks. Am currently thinking of ways I can save money so I can get a breast reduction after Vivi stops nursing in a year or two!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I agree with rounding down. The Penny's thing said to round up so I did, but I am finding after a few wearings, I am having to put them on the tightest band setting. I got all of my bras super cheap (around $10 on clearance) because I lose weight really fast while nursing and knew I would probably need smaller bras soon. I wish I could go up a cup size but then I would have to order online. Anyone know of a larger nursing bra place in the Portland, OR/Seattle,WA area? I will be going there next month.
