What sort of clothes should I buy, that are flattering on a "full figured" Mama? I want to look nice, but I buy baggy flour sack like clothing because I dont know what looks nice. I wondered if you have any advice?

i do! i have some issues of "figure" magazine, would you like me to send them to you? yes they have many size 14 models but they also have 20+ models too. i find that just flipping thru them gives me some great ideas (of course i usually live in old navy jeans and shirts when i am at home and when i go out its tanks with a shrug on over-im not very comfy showing my upper arms- and strippy skirts)

i just noticed your ticker, look at you! wow, you have lost a lot of weight! pretty soon you will be at 175 with me

Mandy

I would LOVE that! I will paypal you at least the cost of shipping, I am in canada, let me know if you would like more too. I dont think we have that mag here, I have never seen any mags with plus size models before. I am too afraid to show my upper arms also. Which sucks, because I used to really like tanks in the summer.

We cross posted, thanks for the kind words! Pre-kids I was 118, but I was ED then, so I'm thinking 175 is a good "healthy" goal for me.

the shrug (can be found at any walmart, target or oldnavy):

some tanks and baby doll tops (also found anywhere)

i love wearing the tanks and a shrug with a good bra bc it accentuates my boobs and detracts from my belly. you can get the shrugs in long sleeve or 3/4 (my fav) and you can wear them with jeans or a skirt and look great!

you know whats good for that a shrug that doesnt tie under the boobs, that way its not drawing attention to the belly area but the upper arms are covered (which like i said is a must for me)

i just had to toss in a giggle.

i swear nearly every time i see bran she's in a shrug of some variety unless it's a t-shirt ala joy or her jammies, lol.

and kas, i am there with you. i wasn't too comfortable in my shrug (passed it along to my friend here ;), lol) but consider looking at different fabrics and trims too...sometimes it is what you wear on the bottom that makes the difference I think. I just found a brown sweater one at target (in the regular section but they go up to XXL which I have found to be the equivalent of a 1X across the aisle) that would go really well with a couple skirts they have right now with a strappy tank under it. DH gets paid this weekend and if we have enough left I plan on going to look more closely. Or you could just say what the he!! about the belly and accent the boobage. I have to say from my experience that a good bra can really make or break a shrug outfit, rofl...and help the eye not notice things below.

I mean, does the shrug look ok over the baby doll or is that(the baby doll top) a type of shirt that you *can* wear something over?

ah yes a shrug looks good over babydoll tops imo
sometimes a shrug that doesnt tie looks better, it just depends on the type of babydoll
you can also wear a lightweight button up shirt and leave it unbuttoned

Okay hun-- I'm there with you somewhere between a 26 and 32 and tall. Bran's absolutely right-- it's totally about attitude. My big move lately has been to get out of the tents. Mostly I figured if I was going to look bad (which a tent does lol) I should look bad in something I wanted to wear. And honestly I don't think I look so bad. I just made some new skirts. They're just below the calf an have a really soft ruffle on the bottom. I think they're wonderful! I also wear a lot of camisoles and baby dolls too. I usually wear a shrug, but its so hot here lately I've been inflicting my upper arms on folks. lol. Your carriage, posture etc is the most important thing. I'm often down on myself, but I remind myself that with this body there is no way to hide. People are going to notice me at 369 and 6'1"-- so I tend to wear orange and bright colors so I get the attention I'm asking for. I also love fun accessories (I'm a scarf and hat person) The more the outfit looks put together, the more it looks like I wanted to be seen looking this way. Maybe its goofy, but that's my take on it. I have issues with depression and I've found dressing my way out of it helps at least a little (assuming the suns out and its not a seriously bad day of course)
Beyond attitude is FIT. I know its dang near impossible to find something that truly fits in our size, but if you can do simple alterations so your clothes really fit (I know that's one reason I stopped wearing pants-- the high waters just made me look like I didn't care when I was seriously trying.) The sweats aren't doing anything for you. Try getting a tiny bit tailored or if you want to go for comfort, try velour or stretch velvet or something similar. It is just as comfortable, but the dressier fabric makes it look like you dressed up :)

Bran, if you decide you want to crochet shrugs-- I've got some patterns I've been working on in plus plus for us goddess types ;)

Branwyn, those pics you posted are really pretty. I like all of them, but i dont think i could wear any of them. My largest part is my boobs. When i try on a shirt that has high waist part (is that what's called a baby doll top?) I find the seem in the middle of my boobs, lol. I had a really difficult time with maternity clothes because so many of them are made that way and not one of them fit.

Not much around here for shopping, but I generally have the best luck at Sears. I've been to some that have nothing and then another that has a pretty good selection. But none of it is as cute as the things you've posted. I'll have to check out the links you posted. thanks!
