I have sat down to write this a dozen times and each time I got overwhelmed. Now she is 2 mths old today ( where did that time go?!) and I think if I do not write it soon I will forget what happened. So here goes...
I was getting antsy during my 39th week, having never mafde it so far I felt overdue, go figure. And as I neared my 40 week mark I was walking, shopping, bending ,lifting, doing the deed, and meditating trying to start something going. The day of the 12th I was mildly crampy all day. I figured it was because I was deep cleaning the house :) I went to bed that night and was up every hour with cramps and having to pee. When I got up to pee at 4:40 I wiped and found there was alot of mucus on the tissue. On the way back to bed my water broke on the bathroom floor. It was like I was peeing and couldn't stop. DH was getting ready for work so I told him that I thought my water broke and could he geta towel and the little papers the MW gave me to test the fluid. The papers turned dark blue, sure enough. Dh got very excited and called into work to say he wasn't coming. I called my MW and told her water broke and she asked how contractions were. Well, I wasn't really having any just these mild cramps so I told her not to worry but expect a call in a few hours. I came downstairs, posted to you guys that my water had broken and then could not stand to be inside. I went out and walked around the yard in the predawn light, birds starting to chirp. It was so peaceful out there. In the space of 10 minutes I was very uncomfortable walking through my cramps and had to stop and breathe. So I called the MW back and told her she may want to come sooner rather than later. I called the doula as well and she said she would be right over. Both of them live an hour away, 40 minutes if you speed :) Now I was able to talk through contractions but barely so I decided to go get in the hot tub and had DH set up the aquadoula in the bedroom. My plan was to have the baby in the hot tub outside unless it was raining or too cold. The water was heavenly when I got in outside. Dh woke up my mom and she and my gram were both excited and worried and restless wandering around. I closed my eyes and began humming through my contractions, submerged up to my neck. I recall the doula and MW arriving and they were wearing coats. I remember thinking they were insane, I was sweating how could they be cold? I had the MW check me and she said I was completely effaced and 8cm. Another contraction, this one a doozy and she said she wanted to check me again because they wanted to move me inside. So , now I am 9cm and they make me get out of my warm water and go upstairs. it was too cold to have the baby outside :( I have no idea what time this was. I got into hte birthing tub in my room and it was uncomfy, not as wonderful as it was outside. This made contractions seem worse I think. My doula held my hand and told me how wonderful I was doing. I was very much inside my own head at this point. The MW checked me again, 10cm, puch whenever you feel like it kate. Ok, I am not feeling like it but I am definately ready to not be in labor anymore so I try with hte next contraction. I felt like I couldn't get any purchase, nothing to push against. I was floating too much in the pool to have any effective pushes. So after a few useless pushes Karen ( the MW) asked me to get out of the tub and sit on the birthing stool. I recall thinking that as soon as I get out of the water this is going to suck. it is is going to be unbearable as soon as I get out. it wasn't :) Dh sat behind me and I put my feet up on stools, much better, something to push against! The doula massaged my perineum and the MW checked me and discovered I had a cervical lip, same as Camden's birth, so she held it back while I pushed and we got her around it. At some point I looked at the clock and asked her if we would have this baby by 10am, she said we certainly would. So the next 2 pushes I decided I was done with this , even if I tore it couldn't be as bad as I was feeling right now. So I pushed with everything I had, 2 pushes and there she was. Sunny side up the little stinker. 9:54am. 5 hours from water breaking to delivery. No wonder it was so intense! I brought her up to my chest and sat for just a minute before I just had to get off that stool and into bed. I was very shakey and tired of being poked at but I let the doula check me and she said I did not tear!! 2 little skid marks but no tears! Awesome! Annabelle was very greyish blue for awhile but she pinked up and started nursing right off. The placenta came out less than 20 minutes after delivering and we caught in the special bowl I painted for Annabelle. We made sure the cord had stopped pulsing and then Dh cut the cord. Karen made me some wonderful tea and gave me some arnica, for swelling I think. Lora, the doula, made me a warm pack for my yoni. I hurt a whole lot. it is diminished in my mind now but I know I was as sore as I have ever been. Mom and Gram came up, the kids came up and after visiting quickly Dh and I were left to lounge in bed the rest of the day. I was tired but too keyed up to sleep. And starving all of a sudden. Lora weighed Annabelle and examined her. She was 8 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches long. By far my largest baby. I stayed in bed for 2 days and it was bliss. 2mths later I am still in love with this cutie. She is nursing like a champ and though she hasn't been weighed in awhile I know she is over 12 pounds. She is so fluffy! Thank you girls for sharing this wonderful journey with me. I am a bit sad to know this was my last, but I am ready to move onto the next phase. I have alot of catching up to do as I haven't been on Amity's for almost hte 2mths since Annabelle was born. I hope all of you are doing well and all those babies are doing well too. many hugs girls :)
