Hey, Amber,
You are at a good elevation, right? I am in CA right now, at about 5000 feet, and would like to find a higher place, outside of CA. Well, as a native Californian, I'd hate to leave, to be honest, but it's getting ridiculous here. Anyway, we've been throwing around the NM high mountain idea. How do you like it there? What's the vaccine/homeschooling climate?
I'm a hermit, too, btw!! ;)

5280 is the general consensus of Albuquerque residents
Rio Rancho is a great place to live with its moderate climate at an elevation of 5,290
Santa Fe is 6,996 feet
I found this info online since I didnt know it off hand lol.
We live in Rio Rancho which as I said just on the outskirts of ABQ. We did live in Santa Fe for several years (I lived there for about 6 years and my parents for 8 years).
We moved because my mom wanted a bigger house for the family and housing is just too expensive for us in Santa Fe.
I grew up in Texas which is at sea level so it was a big change hehe.

We're in Los Alamos (actually White Rock which is down the backside of the hill), around 7000 ft depending on where in town. I love, love, love the mountains now and would hate to leave them. I grew up at sea level in Texas too and have also lived in the SF Bay Area (1994-1999).
The climate here is awesome. Just enough snow to make it feel like winter and allow for skiing on the mountain but not enough to make driving difficult.
I also love our clear blue skies and clean air. The job market and housing are a little weird since the lab is the main employer. This is a great place to raise kids if you like the outdoors.

We are in Tijeras, just east of ABQ (takes me 15 minutes to get to town) out enough to have chickens and acreage and we are about 10-15' cooler than ABQ (and get quite a bit of snow) but close enough to be able to go get things if we need them. If we didn't have a 1/2 hour drive each way to gymnastics 3x a week (and it'll only get worse from hereLOL) I would actually prefer to live further out. The village of Tijeras is right around 6500 ft, but we are up further and our house is 7200 ish.
I grew up in MN lakes and prairies and it's taken awhile to get used to the mountains, but I love it now!

Hi! We live in Las Vegas, NM - which is a bit higher up and cooler than most of you. Its nice to see more New Mexicans around, I've never really met anyone online who was soo close. We make occasional trips to Alb and Santa Fe (usually fabric shopping  ). We love it here and hope to stay even after I finish school, but the job market isn't wonderful, and schools are okay - so we'll see. My husband works part time in Santa Fe but the housing there is a bit ridiculous cost wise. I just can't think of anywhere else I would prefer.

Anyone interested in hanging out? I am reaching out. I am so isolated and lonely.
ETA: I live in Rio Rancho and I am willing to travel up to an hour. Id be most comfortable hanging out at your home or a meeting place w/my two year old son of course.
thanks =)

What's an MNO? totally clueless when it's probably very obvious lol.
Oh and in case anyone isnt sure what or where Rio Rancho is, it's just north of Abq and about 45 mins away from Santa Fe.

Give me about two months and I will most likely be joining you Albuquerque mamas. Looks like hubby might get transferred.
So if anyone feels like emailing or PMing me with info about the area I would be forever greatful..... entertainment, ideas for keeping kids busy, homeschooling, places to eat, and anything that interests you. :)
Personally I'm ecstatic because I'm from Northern Nevada originally and the weather is pretty much the same. It will be almost like going home for me and the HUGE drop in humidity will make me as giddy as a schoolgirl! ;)

Jo

That's awesome Jo!!
Hey you could even live in Rio Rancho if your husband will be working in ABQ, because they are basically right next to each other!
We lived in Santa Fe for many years but moved out to RR because the housing was so much cheaper.
I'd be happy to tell you what I can about the area. Ive lived in NM for about 7 years now.
OH and I finally figured out what MNO means, Mom's Night Out lol.

Thanks ladies. Well if we end up there we will definately live in Albuquerque itself because we will be basically renting the house his mother just bought for her to retire in in 4 years. LOL. Did that make sense? So where we'll live is set, and where Vin would work is set, and where he would go to school as well and for what is set. We just don't know anything else about the place. LOL.
Thanks for the PM, Amber. I appreciate all the info. :)

Jo, that's awesome!!! I'm so happyLOL what part of town will you be in?
(we're east mountains too)
Angela (mom2steen) is in Los Alamos, and sometimes we get Linda when she's visiting! I'm so bummed, she's been here for a month, and we have had such a crazy month, we never did get together :(
We are pretty open most daytimes other than Thursdays, and evenings, pretty much only Mon/Fridays are open....
Want to do a MNO or a park day? We were planning on Explora next Monday (10/10) if anyone wants to meet us there...

All I know is North of I-40... I think? LOL. We should hopefully find something out this week. If the transfer goes in then Vin will most likely leave about a week or two after that and then the kids and I by the end of November. Ugh, another cross country drive. THOSE are getting old. LOL.
I can't wait to get there and do MNO and park days!! As long as you guys don't mind a "heathen" in your midst. ;) The churches are the only places that have MDO here and the 3M Posse (it's what I call the Meanie Mainie Mommies who ignore me) hold the park days so I don't get to participate in either one.
It sounds like there is so much to do and see there which is a HUGE difference from here. There are also over 20 endocrinologists there compared to a whole ONE here, they have pediatric endos there where we have NONE here.....things like that are lifelines for the kids and I as bad as that sounds.
I think it will be good for all of us.

Okay I just received an email from hubby that said.....
I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess that means we're moving eh? ;) Talked to him and he reports there on October 30th so we have ALOT to do. I'm so glad I didn't completely unpack everything at this condo. LOL. Much easier to just pack it all back up now.
BTW- If you know of anyone who would like a Leap Frog Activity Table there in ALB let me know and I'll bring it along. Otherwise I'm just going to take it to Goodwill here before we go.

Jo! North of I-40 doesnt help too much I mean that could mean a lot of places lol. I mean heck technically I am north of I-40..I think lol?
Sorry I can get a lil emotional anyway and then you add my period in the mix and boy watch out!! I didnt even have one last month so she's really making up for lost time.
Anyway I hope I didnt offend anyone and Im feeling awfully needy which is no one's issue but my own.
So glad I will have a Drama mama nearby, Im so jealous of the Cali girls!! lol

:sadhug: hey mama, that last part was meant for you...did you really think I could wait 2 months fora MNO/park day?!?LOL :p
We'll do tons of stuff when Jo gets here, too! Hmmm, we'll be in the middle of winterROTFL Explora is good for that though.
We are at gymnastics every tues/thursday afternoon and sat morning if you're ever completely and totally bored and want to visit then since we're in town!:) Tues and saturdays I have the little ones and thursdays I just have Hunter, sometimes I even go BY MYSELF if hunter's sleeping when I leave.:) I'd love to visit then, I'm the weird crunchy one with a million kids in a world of manzano day school attending, hair highlighting 3rd graders and their lexus driving mamas!LOL (OK some I really like, but most...ack!)
I'm sorry you thougth I was ignoring you! shoulda put your name there!!

LOL Jo, yea N of I-40 doesn't help muchROTFL East would be more by us, but West would be more by Amber. : ) Either way, it's not bad. It only takes me 40-45 minutes from my house in Tijeras to get to our old house in Rio Rancho (we rent it out) and gymnastics is Paseo/San Pedro and it's only 30 minutes there.
No idea on the table...sounds cute though!! keep us updated and let us know what you need help with for moving, settling in etc: ) I figure you'll need a MNO to get a break from unpacking at least<G> maybe a park day day or 2 for the kids to run around...ahhh.LOL Hey you're missing balloon fiesta right now. as much as we love the balloons, these out of state drivers STOPPING on the freeway to look up are driving me crazy!!LOL
I'm so excited! woohoo!!LOL

I'm getting so excited!!! This sounds so fun!
