I'm happy to see the return of the area forums!

Are there any Washington mamas here that I'm not already acquainted with?

In case you don't know me -- which is likely since I don't post often -- I'm 35 (36 next month!) and a SAHM of 3. I'm also a LLL leader and am planning to become a Birthing From Within Mentor. I plan to start midwifery training in another year or two.

Hi ! Nice to meet you guys!

I am new to amity, and have lived in WA for 5 1/2 years. Originally from San Diego. I LOOOOVE this area, (whidbey island) and the weather and the people. It's pretty awesome.

I find I dont do the outdoorsy things I mean to, and thought I would do. Hiking, camping, fishing etc. I am going to try this summer.

Hi Amanda!

Nice to meet you Lorissa. Whidbey Island is nice. Do you live on the water (or near it) or inland? My friend's folks live right on the water and I've visited there twice. I love being by the Sound.

I live in Tacoma and can see a bit of the Sound from our back windows. It's just a hop, skip and a jump away. :)

I live in Spokane. That is still Washington :)
It is so different here than on the Western side.. but I like that we have 4 seasons.
I have lived her most of my life.

Wonder how many of us are actually on the East side :)

Hi Nina,

We have 4 seasons too! Spring, Summer, Fall, and Rainy. :)

I took a peek at your profile. What type of interpreting do you do?

Hmm I wish I had a water view, but that will have to wait til we buy a home in a few years.

Still, whidbey is pretty narrow, so you're always close to the water here. I have been meaning to get out of this area a bit and visit the olympic peninsula and tacoma, but I always find things around here to do instead. Hopefully I will have many years here to do that though.

The one cool thing I finally did last summer was whale watching in the san juans. That was amazing, and we didnt even see that many whales!

I am an Interpreter for the Deaf. Well... not right now as my baby is 6 weeks old and it is summer.
I usually work at Spokane Community College.
I like it there a lot. I am able to have enough flexible hours so we can pay bills (dh is a student) and my kids are with Dh or me most of the time.
I hate free-lancing! And I am too much a mother to work k-12 ....so the CC is perfect for me :)

:flowerkit (my DD wanted to say hi)

Nina, I was planning to become an interpreter but wound up with rheumatoid arthritis midway through college. I still completed an independent study in deaf culture and got through 4 quarters of ASL. Working at a CC sounds great!

Lorissa, whale watching sounds like fun. :) I've never been to the San Juans, but it seems like everyone I know who has gone really enjoyed the trip.

Wow... that would behard! I have a co-worker who was just diagnosed..her pain is mostly in her hips and so she deals with it. She worries about it progressing to her hands and losing her career.

4 quarters of ASL.. you must be pretty fluent :)

I STILL have never been to Silverwood! And it might be a while since all three kids are under 4! I hear it is a ton of fun :) I hope you enjoy it.
I will be passing through Portland to visit my best friend in Eugene at the end of august LOL!

Hello everyone! I just found this area forum, which is nice! I'm a sahm of 2 and a 3rd due in November. We're on Whidbey Island and I love it here (most of the time!). Hopefully we'll be here for awhile, but since dh is Navy, who knows where we'll end up next.

I'm here too - in Olympia. Mama to 4 and 6 year old girls.

Nina, my best friend just moved to Spokane this month. Her dh starts teaching at Gonzaga in August. If you belong to any AP/natural parenting groups or know of any, I would love to pass it on to her. She has an 18 month old girl.

Hi mamas, nice to meet everyone. My name is Dina, and I live in Everett, and have for 28 years. I am the mom to 11 kiddos, the oldest 6 are moved out, and the youngest 5 are at home, with the oldest being 15-1/2, youngest 5yrs old. I have lived in Washington most of my life, with a few years during my childhood out of the state. I don't mind the rain, or the grey LOL :)

Right now we live in the rattlesnake pit of Wa (near Moses Lake). *Not* loving it, but I'm sure we'll move again soon. We move every year or two. I used to live a few blocks from Dina in Everett, I think. :)

As a matter of fact I do :)
I belong to a playgroup/yahoo group called SpokaneMoms.
There is a huge cross-section of types of parents, but all of us are NOT mainstream.
We have a yahoo group and meet once a week.

Nice to meet you Suzanne, Julian's Mom, Holly, and Angie.

I wish that I could think in ASL. Most of the Deaf community fall more in the middle of the english-ASL spectrum and it would take some serious thinking on my part to have to work with a pure ASL client without any warning!
We are talking about moving to Oregon when DH is done with his degree so that I can go to WOU and get my BA in Interpreting.
By that time I will have to start with ASL 1 all over again!

The last time I actually took an ASL class was in 1995. So I know what you mean :)

Hi there from Lakewood...suburb of Tacoma. It's nice to see homefront mamas...I only know a couple from around here. I have one dd, turned 2 in March...going on 3 or 4 though. I am a hair stylist in the Tacoma mall, but not sure for how long...getting really tired of working outside the home...it's only been like 5 months but I like being home more. Might try to make extra income from home by sewing...anyway, I've lived here 4 years, been married 3 years in August to my sweetie hubby. I was raised in Tri Cities, WA..Kennewick to be exact. Anyone ever go to the Tot lot in Fircrest?? We go all the time and would love to meet up with anyone that goes there. If you aren't familiar with it, it is an enclosed park in Fircrest...very nice...you can see your child from anywhere in the park...mostly young kids...awesome park. There is only one way in and out and it is kept shut...kids can't reach the latch. In other words, it is actually a relaxing park for Mom too. Not sure if anyone has been to the new Ft. Steilacoom park...but I lost my dd in there for like a whole minute...not going back until she is MUCH older. Anyway, nice to meet you all in a way...would love to meet for real.

Hi! I didn't get a chance to read this before we left today, but we were there at about 11:30...I wonder if you guys were there?! I was sitting there wondering if any of the people there were amity mamas...maybe next time. If I go it is usually either Wed. or Fri. as those are my 2 days off during the week. I would love to try and meet up!

We just moved up to Brush Prairie, WA. That is just NE of Vancouver, WA. Any mama's close to me? I'm not familiar with all the cities around here, I'll have to get my map out to see who I'm close too ;).

I'm looking for some homeschooling groups or Gentle/AP parenting type groups any hints.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone!

I've lived in Vancouver for the last 15 years or so (excluding this last year, when we lived in Japan), but we are in the process of buying a house in Mossyrock right now. We hope to move in by the end of Sept. I'm really hoping to meet some mamas in that general area!

Hi Mamas.

We currently live in the Skagit Valley. (60 miles N. of Seattle)

I lived in Centralia until 9th grade, then moved to Ellensburg, where my family (and dh's) still live.

My dad was raised on a dairy farm near White Pass in Randle.

We've been out of state for dh's med. school and training for 8+ yrs, and are thrilled to finally be settled.

We go to Deception Pass State Park fairly often and I'd love to meet some Whidbey mamas there.

I've met many amitymamas over the past 6.5 yrs and would love to meet more. A few are among my closest friends.

 Hi from Olympia. I have met Allison, Amy, Desiree, and Sarah (who hasn't posted that I can see) and I love all the WA mamas I know so far. I have two kiddos. Alex and Cyan who are in my siggy. I am a SAHM, I do childcare for two other kids, and I work on Thursdays (except today) at a CSA stand at the local farmers market. I love where I live... although it was easier to say that in July than right now in the middle of "rainy". Fall is usually my favorite time of year, but this year it hit too hard and too soon. I lost my entire garden (minus a few herbs) to the first frost that came 3 weeks early this year.

Anyhow... I am a true puddle foot. Don't mind rain... sun actually hurts my eyes if it comes out with no warning. lol...

Everyone sounds so wonderful! We should do a NW get together sometime soon.

Hello, I'm totally new here. My name is Sarah and I live in Tacoma with my husband, three daughters and a son. My oldest is 10 and my youngest is 15 months. I've been wanting to join in for a long time, but just haven't. So here I am now and hoping to make some online pals--I'm not online too often, though, so I hope nobody minds if I'm not a frequent poster (just a few times a week).
I love the NW and have lived here for about 13 years. I'm 37 and feel like I'm just now coming into my own. Strange that that can happen later--I wish I'd felt like this when I was 27 instead!
I hope to get to talk with you all soon.

I am hoping to go to my first meeting tomorrow morning. Even if you aren't interested, PM me to get together sometime!!

Jess, did you see there's another Bremerton mama?

I was born in Bremerton, raised in Oregon, lived in Georgia for the past 14 years.

We're hoping to move home in the next 6-12 months and we're looking along the I-5 corridor in the Olympia/Tacoma/Seattle area.

Eric is a civil engineer.. anyone happen to have any headhunter contacts?

We were in Sumner/Port Orchard at Christmas (as well as Oregon and Boise) and then I was in Bremerton in April for my grandfather's funeral.. and we just so badly need to be home. Eric's from Boise... and has been here 19 years now. Neither of us feel that Georgia is home.. the NW is where we belong.

I've got 3 little ones.. Lindsey will be 5 in July, Joshua will be 3 1/2 next week and Leila will be 1 in July. We'll need friends and playmates :)
