My husband and I disagree on discipline. I always just considered it a spanking v. non-spanking issue. DH would spank, often, if not for me. But, I am just beginning to read Alfie Kohn's Unconditional Parenting. It hit me, it is more than that. It is a control issue. I have no desire to control my children, to have "good girls". DH wants utter control. It will be interesting to get more into the book and see more into our differences. Maybe I can work toward solving them.

I have not read this book, but I have been lurking in a discipline forum on another sight, and this control thing really hits a chord with me. The idea that some things are not necessary, it's really just about me wanting things my way. I swear I have become a better parent in a week's time. Now, if I can just keep it up. Maybe thoughts like those in the book will help your dh. I will say I WANT to change, so you may have your hands full just convincing him to consider the possibility that change might be a good idea. this post seems muddy, but I hope you can make some sense of it.
