..........sigh.......... Trace found another sharpie. This time at my sister's new apartment. He wrote on the wall of course, with yellow highlighter to boot. I've tried Tilex, Clorox Bleach Pen, Lysol antiacterial kitchen spray, soap/water, Pine Sol and hairspray. The hairspray lightened an area in it, but that's it. Any help would be WONDERFUL otherwise i guess i'll be painting. :eyes:

Nail polish remover usually works well on sharpies...
Good luck!

Maybe some Kilz to cover it? I don't have any idea what would remove it but the Kilz would cover it. When we lived in our townhouse, that's what they used to cover stains, etc before repainting. You can buy it at any hardware store.

UGH Whitley did this when we first moved into our house. Hers was on the kitchen bar (like countertop material) so I don't know if this would work for you or not... but the ONLY thing I found that worked was a combination of Borax and De-Solv-It. Probably totally toxic or something but it worked - it was red sharpie and there is no trace of it left. Good luck

What would I do without these? They do work on Sharpie...I've used them for it before.

Thanks for the suggestions. lol i've tried the Magic Erasers at home and they didn't work, but maybe the paint is different. I have some KILZ but don't you have to use paint after you use that?
UGH you'd think in today's day and age that SHARPIE would have come up wiht some sort of cover for it! lol

I teach microbiology. In lab we use Sharpies for writing on all our different supplies. What you want to use is "decolorizer." A 50/50 mixure of 100% acetone (found in nail polish remover) and 70% isopropyl alcohol. You can find both things in the make-up section of you local box store. That is where I buy them because decolorizer is one of our supplies that is used up quickest. That takes Sharpie out with no problems. Once you have it mixed up, just dip a napkin or paper towel in and use that to work on removing the Sharpie or any "permanent" marker. Good luck.
Someone told me once that they used (i'm not kidding) dry erase marker over the sharpie, and then dry erased both away. That somehow erasing the DE marker took up the sharpie too.

The magic eraser hasn't worked on my paint either.
Rubbing alcohol has.
BTW You usually can't just paint over it either without several coats or a primer, so I would definitely get it off.

It depends on your paint. Ben and Milo went through a mural phase. The Mr. Clean Eraser took it off of anything with any gloss at all just fine. It didn't work for flat paint.
But then nothing works for flat paint.
DOWN WITH FLAT PAINT!
LOL, we used "left over" paint to paint our master bedroom when we moved this time. We used a high gloss from one ceiling project and a semi-gloss from another ceiling project (in the old house). Both shades of white. One was white with a deep green hue and one was white with kind of a blue-mint hue to it. My brother said, "won't you feel like you're sleeping in the bathroom?" Cracked me up. But you know what? When Milo took red crayon to it, it wiped right off with an ordinary sponge.

LOL That is too funny. I actually have behr semigloss in my entire house. Sometimes I wonder if it is too shiny but you know what, with kids....

Oh, man, my youngest dd loves sharpies, and dh has a bunch :(
She's sharpied my new(then) couchs--2x, the kitchen linoleum, walls, herself, you name it :(
Magic eraser worked on the floor, but not on the walls. I think the only thing that worked on the walls was painting. Dh just pained over with several coats until it didnt' show through. It didn't take that many coats for us though.
Good luck. I feel your pain.
Love, Carey

one thing that will remove it INSTANTLY? Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It's like $2 for a box of 2. Wet it, no cleaner or chemicals, and it will come off in second. Seriously! My BF has 3 boys, ones a 3yr old and I am constantly cleaning pen, marker, paint and sharpie off of the table, furniture, walls, mirrors.... you name it. It's seriously the BEST thing ever invented!!! No scrubbing or anything. It's awesome!
