View Full Version : OT: Can I hog some board space with a baby name poll?

We've come up with some more choices to add to our list, and I think I've probably bored the expecting board and MD mamas to death. You guys are my friends, can I ask here? We want old fashioned, different names. Lay it all out for me, don't be afraid to offend. We especially want to steer clear of any pop culture names, but we don't have TV, so we are hopelessly behind on the 'cool' names. Feel free to inform me if any of these are likely to become popular. ;)
Here is our newly revised list:
Isaiah
Josiah
Ezra
Cedric
Quincy
Last name is Stauffer.

I love Isaac. :)
If this one is a boy, I always said we would name our next boy Luke.
Of your list however, my favorite I think would be Isaiah. :)

I  Isaiah! Might have something to do with one of my best friends having a GORGEOUS little man by the same name ;) He has to be the sweetest, happiest little guy I've ever known...
Man, I hate that they just moved a couple thousand miles away!

However, the names on your list are mostly fairly popular. At least around here. I know 2 babies named Josiah irl, one Ezra about to be born and a handful of Isaiah's 3 and under. There were actually 2 Isaiah's in Jacob's preschool class of 14 kids. 2 Jacob's, as well. Biblical names are very popular these days. Jacob was almost Isaac except 2 people at our church named their babies Isaac about a month before he was born. So, we picked Jacob since we didn't know any Jacob's. Turns out Jacob was the #1 name for 2001. You just can't win with that, I tell you.
I only know one Quincy and no Cedrics.

You are not kidding!!! Ellie is actually Gabrielle and when I was pg with Isabelle we were looking for a name, with historical/classical European roots. I wanted Cassandra, but it was DH's turn to chose and he found the Irish/Galiec form of Isabelle. I can't remember the spelling but it was weird. So we agreed on the name, with the Spanish spelling. We named her and then found out that it was like #5 that year for names in the US. I was floored....who would have thought. Then I started noticing all of these "Isabella" and "Isabelle" posters at work.....they used to hang huge banners on the sides of the cubicals anytime an employee in that area had a new baby. UGH!

How about Quinn? I love that name for a boy. Makes me think of the song "Quinn the Eskimo", which I love.

I vote Ezra. It's such a cute boy's name, and it would go nicely w/your last name. If I didn't have a boy's name already picked out I might use it myself, LOL!

That is interesting! I don't know any kids by any of those names! LOL. And I've been watching the baby announcements in the newspapers just to be sure. I think it varies so much by region.
Wyatt fell off the list when I found out it's some character on the TV show Charmed. Bleh.

I like Ezra, Josiah, or Isaiah. Have you thought about Garrett? That is very old fashioned. OT & FYI, when we picked Abigail's name we never thought it to be old fashioned. But, alot of people commented on how sweet it was and that they were glad we choose an old fashioned name. Go figure!

I like Isaiah and Josiah the best, too.
If you go to babynamer.com, they have a section for each name for 'namesakes' and also 'drawbacks' - kinda fun to look at.

The only one I didn't really go for on your list was Cedric, but that's just me. :) I've never seen the Cedric the Entertainer guy, lol.
I've had several students named Quincy, so maybe it's becoming popular. I don't know. They were all absolutely adorable and wonderful kids though. :)

I really like Ezra! Second runner up, Josiah.
It is definitely a regional thing b/c I don't know ANY kids named any of the names from your list! LOL I knew an Ezra growing up, but he was older than me and that was in Vermont.

Ezra
I like it. Its easy to say. It sounds good with your last name.
It has a z in it (an underutilized letter of the alphabet)
It sounds good with your dd's name
Lydia and Ezra
Although other people in the world may have it.......really......who cares?
It isn't on the top 100 list I bet!
