Last night I had to prewash some fabric for 2 gifts I need to make this morning in addition to cleaning house for company this afternoon. So while I was waiting I decided to cut into some yummy cotton lycra I just bought and make myself a shirt. I made New Look 6160 because I really don't like tank tops and this seemed like an okay alternative. WTH is wrong w/ NL? I love them for kids clothes, but once again the back neck was a little gappy like their cross front shirt. And the arm holes are a little too big and show a peekaboo of bra in the front?!?! Argh! Anyone think it'd work if I just add sleeves? The bra thing is why I don't wear tanks! I'm totally hacked, the neck came out perfect too. I made a sz 12 based on the bust measurement. It's good everywhere but those stupid armholes. I don't have enough chest to flash so I'm really confused...

Attempting to show pic of the pattern...this chick looks kinda tough, LOL.

Bummer, sorry

I've had great luck with NL patterns. I do have the back-neck gaping problem. But I just read I may need to alter patterns because as we age our upper backs begin to round.

I have found that I don't pay attention to their measurements. I take my RTW size as go up 2 for the pattern. It works well for me.

Oh so sorry Michelle, what a bummer! If you ever figure it out it looks like it would be a really fantastic and comfy shirt...... :)

Hey, I have that pattern! :) lol I haven't made a shirt from it, though, because I'm still trying to get over my fear of knits. I'm sorry about your shirt. It's such a bummer when stuff doesn't turn out right.

:( Cruddy.

Personally, I want to make that shirt only if my body looks like that in it :D

Ok, thinking about easy fixes. Could you make the shouler bit smaller? Would that take enough in to fix the arm bra problem? For the back I'd just take a fold out of the traceing/pattern and alter it that way when you go to try it again.

For sizing, you should chose a shirt size based on your upper chest measurement is your full breast measurement is 2" or larger than your upper chest measurement. Upper chest is right above your breasts. So, if your full bust is 36" and your upper chest is 33", you should use 33" in the measurement chart.

That said, I always measure pattern peices. I never go off the measurement chart.
