Cut 30 squares since we added some fillers!

Thanks ladies, this filled up fast! Now have fun looking for that "perfect" material. PM me when you are ready for my address.


A few months ago this was done, but I want to do another one. I am trying to make twin size I spy quilts for my boys by Christmas. Yes, I am already thinking about Christmas gifts. I don't want any last minute rushing around.

Here's how it works. Sign up for a letter and send it 26 blocks 6x6 inches and you will get 26 blocks back ( don't keep one, I will just line them up alphabetically and go down the line when sorting). If you sign up for more than one letter you will get more than one set of blocks back. But how ever many letters you sign up for you will need to send in 26 blocks of that letter. Sometimes you many have to "fussy cut" so that you can get the object/objects. The material needs to be a cotton/woven. No knits, no fleece, preferably no flannel- think quilt blocks here.

Label the 6x6 inch blocks with your name, where you are from (it's just fun to see where the blocks are coming from) and the letter (example V for veggies).

Lets keep have a send by date of July 8th (that gets us through the holiday and gives us time if we need to order material online). Include a SASE or $3.85 and I'll just stick them in a flat rate envelope. PM me for my mailing address. Post which letter you want and I'll check back often to update this master list.

So you just find a fabric that has something with the letter you signed up for and you make 6 x 6 squares from that SAME fabric for all 26? Does that have to be the ONLY thing on that square. For instance I have a jungle fabric that has different animals but if I signed up for Z for zebra is it ok to have the lion and tiger in there too?!?

And you dont have to back or stitch them or anything just the squares with raw edges and PREWASHED?

About having more than one thing on the square, last time there were a couple squares that I replaced because they had other things on them and it was confusing to my dd who was trying to indentify the letters.

Also, can we specify only 100% cotton woven and not flannel?

Yes! lets fo it!!! So with that only 100% cotton woven and no flannel.

I think it would be best if you found fabric with only the letter you picked if possible. Search out ebay and online stores if you are having problems finding something locally.

I think you would need to get the squares, unless you are fussy cutting. (45 wide divided by 6 would be 7.5 squares, then you would need four rows, so that would be 4 X 6= 24 inches- so get a yard to be on the safe side) but like I said that's if you don't have to fussy cut. Last time I did airplane and had to cut squares around the airplane so I could get a full airplane on the square and it took more than a yard.

Rebecca K would you please just send in two sets of two letters of your choice. Post which ones you will do.

After this we should get two more sets sent in. That would give us 30 blocks so you could make a quilt 5 x 6 or something. I just want to be sure to get everyone a set or two that wants one.

Please check to see if there are any errors. Also, if you need to drop out will you please post and let us all know as soon as possible so we cal fill your spaces.

Yes, you will be gettting two sets of blocks back. Send in 30 of each letter you have choosen.

If you are like me and have two children and need two blankets, thus two sets of blocks.....

We label EACH square? with our name or just the packet of square?? If we do just ONE label per Letter could someone type up a sheet that has the letter/from/where and you can just print enough copies for everyone?!??

good idea. I have a spread sheet set up here with everyone and their letter. I will just print it out. It would be a lot of work labeling 30 squares. Just be sure that your have your address on the envelope somewhere clearly. I won't share your address (just city and state if that's ok) with everyone. I just need your address so I can return you a set of squares.....

When I quilt I don't normally bother to prewash (especially since I like the way it'll tighten up and fluff after its quilted and I wash it) I think this fabric wash washed when I bought it though lol.

Well, I am definately going to give it a couple of days. Not everyone knows the "back way" to get into AW since the domain name has gone down, so some may still be looking for my address or something. If not everyone sends in their squares I'll just send out what squares I do have and then send you back the extras of what you sent in.

Sorting woes: I had the letter X and found some material online, but then when I went to order it they are out. So you will only be getting 29 squares because I just can't find anything local for X, and somehow I got stuck doing 3 sets anyways? So I hope everyone is ok without an X in thier set, I really tried....Sorting this was harder than I thought it would be. It looks like two of the letters were cut at 6 1/2 inches instead of six so be on the look out for that. I just don't have the time to go and trim 60 squares, but you all can trim those two on your own, just thought I'd give a heads up though. Two mama sent in only 26 squares and one mama sent in only 28 so they will be getting sets back that don't have the 29 squares.....hmmmm, it's late and that's all I can think of for now.

Oh crumbs.......it has been a while, so I don't know if I sent the correct amount of squares! I didn't screw up did I??

I swear I hate the PO here, they never seem to ever scan the DC numbers in. I only ever see it show up in the system about the time its delivered. :(

That would be great! I think in the last swap someone did foX for the letter X. I really want to get these mailed out by Friday or Saturday. My dh leaves on Thursday for 10 weeks to an Army school and I just don't have the space (or sorting help) to go on much longer than that.

I am guilty of forgetting to send postage. i will send PayPal. I am also guilty of cutting them 6-1/2". I used one of those hard plastic quilt square thingies to trace and cut with a rotary cutter. Sorry if that was an inconvenience. I guess I thought I was supposed to leave room so once sewed the squares would be 6x6. My bad, I apologize. :( If it helps anyone out to figure the 6-1/2" squares, I had letters A and W. They were apples and watermelons. Again I'm sorry for any inconvenience. I guess that's what I get for being human lol. :D

Oh, I hope I haven't made anyone feel bad! We all make mistakes and we miscount or miscut or something...... I was just trying to give a heads up on what was coming.

I have been really busy because my husband left today for a 10 week Army course. It is such a long time to have him away from home and we have been doing as much together as a family as we can. When he gets back fromt this schooling he will be a Drill Sergeant. He will work long hours and most days of the week, family life as we know it will change. It is not something we wanted to do but something we have to do. Anyways, that has been hard to cope with.

Well, enough of my whine.....

But, he left this morning and now I can finally get things sorted and sent out! Yeah! The squares are so neat and I can't wait to get some sewing done. Something to do in the evenings for the next 10 weeks when the boys are in bed and my husband is gone.....

I got the X squares and I got the other lost in postal mail squares! Yeah- we have a complete set :monkeydan :monkeydan :monkeydan . Sure enought the lost squares where sent out the middle of July and only had to come from Texas.

I hope no one is confused by my square, I had E and the only fabric I could find was micheal miller "sunny side up" it is mostly fried eggs and I tried to fussy cut to get more eggs than bacon on each square. I was praying that the B square would be something obvious for the bacon could be ruled out on the E square.
I hope to get my package soon!

I will post a list in the next day or two. With DH gone I have very little free time.... But yes, the fried eggs were for E and they yellow sunflowers were for Y.
