I made the silk/flannel blankets I've been working on for a while. I'm really happy with how these turned out. The dye jobs I've shown before but the edge finishing is what I'm excited about today. I pulled the silk to the backside and mitered the corners- its so nice :D

oooh! that looks great!

i bought a gorgeous piece of hand-dyed silk from a mama here a while back and i've been meaning to make a throw for milo's bed (which he doesn't have yet and probably won't for quite a while), but not sure how to tackle it. so, i'm so happy i saw yours...

I love them! How did you do the binding? I love silk and flannel blankies, they are my absolute favorite. If you get a chance, can you explain how you did the binding? purdy please.

Eons of spray adhesive to get the layers to stay together without shifting, the silk particularly has issues staying truly flat. then i trimmed them up to be square and serged edges. Next I pressed a crease about 1.5" from edge as reference. Mitered the corners- you can find directions and pics for this online, folded the edge over and topstitched- folding serging to the inside. sorry i'm nak and can't explain more- hth!

ok, so you sprayed the silk down.. then stitched the flannel to it? sewing machine? or serger? turned and topstitched or just the topstitching? I really want to make a silk blanket for the baby but I keep freaking out about it. Before I figured I would just bite the bullet and buy one (ack!) but now that financesare so tight, that isn't an option anymore... sigh...

Bayus' blanket, not shown, is turned and topstitched- no spray adhesive needed. I wasn't able to get the silk and flannel 'just so' though so this time I opted to adhesive them together. I had my mom help hold the silk while I sprayed the flannel and smoothed the silk to it bit by bit. Then I folded the thing in quarters and trimmed up the two raw sides so that the finished blanket would be totally square (trimming later allows me to not have to anal-ly line up edges. Just cut flannel generous, adhesive, and trim your 40-44" silk with oversized flannel down to about a 38-40"square).

Ok then I chose to serge the edges but you could skip that step if you wanted. Then I folded the edge in and rolled the raw edge to the inside while stitching down. Mitered corners are optional, but I think they look nice.

I hope I'm making things clearer instead of murkier
