My auto tension machine does not like shirring, at all, which has me so bummed!
So, while at old navy today, I was checking out the shirred mama tops, and lo & behold, they are done with a chainstitch! So, I set up my coverstitch for chain, and put the elastic thread in the looper, and it works great! Only problem is that there isn't much clearance so after a few rows it gets pretty tight.

You missed this discussion the other day ;) LOL
I haven't done a chainstitch yet. Our Old Navy dresses from a couple years ago have the elastic thread on the outside and the inside and I think it looks ugly. Was yours just on the inside?

Hehe, see what I miss by taking a long weekend at the beach! The shirts at old navy now are elastic thread on the inside, regular on the outside

I would love to see a close-up pic of this shirring. ;) Do you mind sharing?!?! I think I might sit down at the coverstitch machine today and give it a whirl. :D

Now that's a shirring technique I'm willing to try! I may have to join the shirring bandwagon afterall. :)
