To use my my leftover Peaches and Cream cotton I started looking last night for small washcloth patterns.
I found this pattern for a baby petal shaped washcloth.
I'm about halfway finished and like the look of it so far.

I'd love to see a picture...I'm not able to visualize the shape by looking at the pattern. sounds pretty!

I'd love to see a photo too. Or heck, maybe I'll just make one. ROFL

Thanks for sharing. I would like to try some knitted washcloths. So far I have just been crocheting them with the single crochet stitch and then adding a contrasting color for the border.

warm wishes,

I used the washcloth as soon as I finished it. :) When it is dry I'll take a pic and post here. It is very similar though in looks to this pattern.

Edited to add:
Here is a little bit bigger cloth, same directions as the baby size just more stitches cast on to start. A scan of the cloth is included.

No little cloth pics yet but thought I'd pass along a link for personalized washcloths.

I also got out my copy of Mary Thomas' Book of Knitting Patterns and I'm going to use some of those stitch patterns for washcloths. I just started one in what is called a Close Stitch, super easy and a nice change from plain garter st, it also makes a slightly thicker fabric.

Washcloth makers, where do you get your design ideas?

oooh pretty!

I'm rather fond of the boring garter stitch lol. I usually do some sort of crafty thing in the evening when I want to be done thinking for the day...or am too brain dead to even consider thinking lol! I did get some 55% hemp/45% cotton yarn on ebay that makes really nice (thicker and *scrubbier* than 100% cotton) washcloths.

If you like garter stitch, then try this one:
Cast on an odd number of sts.
Row 1: *K1, S 1 (purlwise)* end with K1.
Row 2: Knit.
That is called Close Stitch in this book. And according to Mary Thomas it is particularly "smart" looking in cotton yarns. :)

If you do the same Row 1 and switch to Purl on Row 2 that is called Heel Stitch.
I'll bet either one would be really cushy in your hemp/cotton yarn.

ok, I'll try it :) When it says "S 1 purlwise" does that mean I have to move the yarn to in front of the needles before I slip?...and stick the needle in the loop as if I were going to purl, of course. The motion of moving the working yarn from the back to the front is still so awkward for me. I've only done ribbing twice and it made me crazy...totally slowed me down. Please tell me that with practice that will find its own sort of rhythm and gets easier.

No, leave your yarn to the back. Slip your needle like your are going to purl into the stitch on your left needle and just move it to your right.

Ribbing slows me down too, especially k1p1, but practice really does help!

Did you really do that? :)

I started a mitered square cloth last night that I really do like, it would be great for scraps pieces.

lol...yes, I did. We have all hard surface flooring (wood/tile) so the floor really looks much better if I get down there and wash it by hand every once in a while. I"m in love with Method floor cleaner...I add a bit more essential oils too it bc I like the scent of clean to really linger. But with my yummy smelling cleaner and my thick, scrubby cloth I almost enjoyed wiping the floors down LOL!

Is Method the cleaner Target sells?
We have hardwoods and tile too and I've not found a cleaner I like that well. I do add essential oils to what I use though, I love the citrus scents best. Other than the bathroom or laundry room (both tile) I don't think I'll be doing them by hand anytime soon but I'll bet a handknit cotton cover on a dustmop would be nice. :)

Dannielle,

I thought I'd tell you I tried the Method floor cleaner last week, I like it! I got the squirt and mop almond scented. Is this the same one you use? If so, what essential oils do you add to it?
I might just get one of those Method baskets assortments next time. Have you tried any of their laundry products?

oops...sorry, I didn't answer your first question earlier.

no, the stuff I have is called "method floor care"...it's the mix with water in a bucket kind of stuff. I have lemon ginger (which I LOVE) and the lavender (which doesn't smell right imo...doesn't smell the same as their yummy lavender dish detergent lol).

I've been known to add sweet orange oil, lemongrass & sage, lavender, or even patchouli essential oil. And I'll even admit to adding fragrance oils too lol...green tea, cinnamon or apple-cinnamon (to the lemon ginger), red currant & thyme, peppermint, rose (to lavender). I don't care that they don't have any antibacterial properties lol. I just like things to smell yummy.

I'm glad I revisted this thread. I need to wipe down the floors tonight and now I'm in the mood. Think I'll do apple cinnamon with lemon ginger cleaner. And, of course, a hand knitted cloth (gotta stay on topic lol)

I love method laundry detergent too. The only stuff of their's I haven't tried is the almond scented stuff because I'm not too fond of almond scented stuff.

oh, I also wanted to say that I'm still LOVING that dishcloth pattern. It's so thick and sturdy that I can get away with using size 10 needles.

Wow, size 10 needles would make them really fast!
I've been doing the mitered square pattern lately and mixing my tiny remnant balls for each.

Oh that lemon ginger sounds great, I didn't see that or would have bought it instead. I'm not that crazy about almond either but it's not too bad.
I'll have to check out the lavender dish detergent and the laundry stuff too.

Thanks for the info! :)
