My face is red having to ask this, revealing I've done ANYTHING to avoid doing a neckline with ribbing. But I've determined to overcome this block.
I googled this and got contradictory advice . . . I was trying to find the answer so I didn't have to ask, LOL!
Got ribbing, washing machine on standby, thanks for being there :)
Kim don't wash it, I never have. Works perfectly not washing, so now you can finish your project tonight :)

Wash it! (I really don't see the purpose in not pre-washing fabric unless you're quilting and you want it to shrink a bit).

What are you using? I know Joann's calls their cotton/lycra "ribbing" and it does shrink quite a bit, so I always wash it.

Maybe you should post a poll & let the majority rule.

Ribbing and fleece are the only things I *don't* prewash.

LOL, OK, two "yes" and two "no" . . . this is funny :-).
Actually Allison, I have one piece from J's and another is Walmart ribbing.

I prewash everything, even fleece.
Some ribbing will shrink. And sometimes fleece is stretched as its put on the bolt and when washed will "settle", so I prewash that as well.
You know Kim I'd wash it if it were for the whole project, meaning you were using the ribbing for the whole shirt but for the neckline ribbing I still stand on "no washing," I've done it for years and have never had one problem with it. I know I've read it somewhere too but can't remember what book.

For a while I preweashed everything, including ribbing. But then I read somewhere that you're not supposed to, since it stretches it out and makes it difficult to manage. That *was* my experience, so now I don't pre-wash it anymore.
I don't remember where I read this either...
