I can't remember seeing a movie that disturbed me in such a way. I was not terribly impressed with the movie and hated the ended ... though Michael Keaton is one of my favorite actors. The documentary at the end, with the actual paranormal investigators, got to me. I had knowledge of EVP prior to the movie but hadn't delved into the subject enough to really let it have an effect on me. I even went to the investigator's website a few minutes ago and would love to read the book by one of the members titled I'm Still Here... written about the author's communication with her daughter after her death a few years ago.

I believe in the paranormal but struggle with it due to certain personal Christian beliefs. I would absolutely LOVE to research the subject but won't.

anyway... no special reason for creating a thread about the movie ... other than to share the fact that it disturbed me and left me walking around the house with a million questions stirring around in my restless brain.

And I'm now afraid of the my tv and stereo.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/steague6/aaa.gif Hope that passes soon :)

I can't watch scary movies, or movies about the dead communicating with the living. It took me decades to shake scenes from "Amityville Horror" LOL I would wake up, and the clock would read 3:15 and I would be petrified.

Thanks for the warning, LOL

Warning..leave now if you get spooked easily.....

Okay, ghosts....hmmm...I am not sure I want to be doing this at 2:30 am just before I go to bed

Ghosts are people who have lost their bodies due to acts of violence, or suicide, or just plain losing it when they are not ready, and therefore are stuck on the material plane, and they hang out on the mental plane (since the remaining substance they have left is the mind) til they were supposed to go. They are attracted to welcoming environments (who isn't?), and when you think about them, talk about them, watch movies about them, etc, you are creating an environment that attracts them.

Sooo...watching a movie that is all about them, and throws in real stuff at the end...is gonna bring them around big time! Ick!

Not everybody gets bothered by them, because not everybody has an open receptive window in their mind for them, but some people do, and I am one of them. I don't get as bothered by them as my BIL and MIL, though. But I get bothered enough, usually at night, which is why I really shouldn't be thinking about them right now! I have had several instances of attacks after either watching a movie, or reading a book on paranormal investigations. I don't read them anymore....

I guess I must not be receptive, cause I watch paranormal investigative stuff all the time, listen to Coast to Coast AM, and generally am obsessive about that kind of things. I am very interested in EVP's and was planning on not seeing this movie at all. In the age of movies like The Grudge, I doubt that any real EVP information would be used in White Noise, not interesting enough. DH and I are kinda weird that way, some couples are into sports together or other hobbies, we are into paranormal research ;)

ITA 100% I'll admit that for some scary movies, the previews suck me in! But depending on the type of movie, I don't rent b/c like the OP I don't like the questions that start stirring.

and amityville-eek still makes me scared after 10+ years! lol

wow.. just clicked on the above site and wasn't expecting an EVP recording to come blasting out of my speakers. Scared the crap outta me! :)

I'm reading info at the site now...but will not be opening any evp recordings. That is slightly beyond by comfort zone.

My bil's daughter lived in a house that was occupied by an unfriendly spirit...She along with her husband and young son. They recently sold the house and did not divulge the information to the real estate company. Her story could be turned into a movie. I use to call my sister to get updates on the situation. The house is about 90 minutes from me.

I use to be friends, years ago, with a young lady who was a member of a small group who used Oujia boards to communicate with the dead. They would go to cemeteries and mausoleums. She got a kick out of telling me the stories. The last time I saw her at a local Bar N Grill I asked her about the meetings and she just started shaking her head and saying that she didn't want to talk about it. Later on, I learned what had occured during the last "meeting". None of them touched a Oujia board after that night. Scary stuff.

Yeah, Ouija boards oughta be banned...I can't believe they sell them to the unsuspecting public in the BOARD GAMES aisle  .

I have never done them, and I never will...I will never willingly open up my mind to whoever is there looking for an opening! I have friends who have done it, and have had some wierd experiences, and some bad ones...

no problem Tara :) I laughed about it after my heart stopped trying to beat itself out of my chest :)

Do they still sell those stupid Ouija boards? I thought they quit selling them a long time ago. I haven't seen them in years. I remember being at our neighbor's house one night. My oldest sister and her friend were watching us younger girls while our moms were out. The older girls went into a bedroom to mess with the Ouija board while us younger girls were playing. I have no idea what happened in that room. I just remember Joan talking to me a few minutes after they emerged from the room... telling me that if I came over to play with Cathy again and she wanted to play with the Ouija board that I was to tell her "no" and that I was to never touch it. I think I was 4 at the time and didn't have a clue what she was saying but I stayed away from the Ouija board.

It's all so mysterious to me. I have so many questions.

So, Tara, you have actually heard/recorded the voices? As curious as I am I could never muster the courage to do any ghost hunting. I thought about asking my sister if I could go and visit her daughter-in-laws house. I was curious as to whether or not I would "feel" something in that house. My sister and her husband spent a lot of weekends there when they would drive up for visits. Her dil told her not to be too alarmed if she heard footsteps or things moving in the night. My sister never witnessed anything except the doorbell ringing even though they had it disconnected. The spirit was not fond of the lady of the house and "picked" on her. She could never make coffee and leave the room. If she did... she would return and the coffee grounds would be thrown all over the floor. If her husband made the coffee then it was left alone. Many things occured. I can't believe they stayed in that house for so long.

I haven't heard it with my own ears ,but when were "hunting" we have a digital recorder on. We playback the recordings and that is when we hear them. So yes, I have heard these spirits talk and it is spooky. Everything we have is on the website. Some of them are me, Dh and friends talking and the spirits let us know they are there... I mostly visited Greenlawn Abbey. I haven't been to any of the other places on the site though , cause i got pregnant with Sully and in the event something freakish does/did happen I didn't want to risk hurting us;) For that same reason , since I m nursing I won't be doing any hunts with the COPS members either... Dh will though ;)

Oh the coffee would be enough for me to get out..I am a chicken s**t , but i don't know why i am intrigued so much by paranormal.

I hope you all don't think I am crazy. A few years' back my youngest sister was in a bus accident with her middle school band. The bus rolled over near Nova Scotia and there were four kids killed. My Mom told me that they flew out a back window, as it rolled it popped, and they were crushed. For a week the scene would play out in my head and I would just cry because we came so close to losing my sister.

I was folding up laundry down in the basement one afternoon a week later, still shocked and sad, and still not quite sure how it really happened when all of a sudden I heard a voice, clearly, say, "that's not how it happened." It was young, like my sister's voice was. I slammed that dryer shut and ran upstairs. I called my Mom and told her what happened and she said that the accident had been under investigation and they determined two children had been on the bus, had passed another way. I "know" that voice was one of those children who had died.

I can't watch "White Noise" alone and dh won't sit with me.

LOL I need to see that movie. The only ones that had me up at night were the Ring and Butterfly Effect.

The only time I've heard a clear voice was when I was praying for that woman in a coma -- and the voice said "I've had her in my arms since the accident. Do not be afraid, she has always been at peace with me." So I'm not afeared lol

I always figured 'ghosts' were time travelers checking us out :D

OK, I am reviving this thread since we finally got around to watching this movie. I didn't like the ending - thought it sucked! But now I'm bugging DH to get a voice activated recorder, LOL. I went to the website mentioned in the movie and thought it was cool. The only thing that bothers me is that I would want to be selective of "who" I invited to talk to me, and since that can't be done I probably won't get around to doing anything about it.

Maybe.

LOL I was going to dig this thread up today too since we finally watched it last night. I liked it, except the end....RRRGGH I HATE endings like that!!!!!
For some strange reason we didn't even bother to look at the special features so we'll have to go back and check them out tomorrow.
The only thing that freaked me out in the movie was when he went to hug the computer monitor and that girl poped up. I don't believe in the "supernatural" so It doesn't freak me out too much but the movie was cool.

That's how I was with City of Angels...that movie disturbed me for weeks because of the ending...grrr. I have enough reality...give me my happy ending, gosh darnit! LOL

Re: scary movies and ghosts... I don't watch scary movies AT ALL. They don't necessarily bother me when I see them, but they stick in my mind forever and come back to haunt me later...like usually when I'm home alone at night. :)

I've never believed in ghosts though. I lived in a house when I was a kid that previous owners claimed was haunted, and the house my family currently lives in (where I spent about 12-years) is right next to an old cemetary. Apparently, their house was originally built in the early 1900's for a church pastor. I'm told it's likely that funerals were held in it...hehee I've never seen anything weird...and my cousins and I used to run around "our" graveyard at night chanting stuff like "dead man, dead man, come alive." LOL

My dad has always been fond of saying, "It's not the dead ones you have to worry about...it's the live ones who will get you." :)

Sure! One interesting thing about the EVP site mentioned in the movie is that people were able to communicate back and forth with loved ones who had "transitioned"; the ones I read about lost children in auto accidents. I lost my best friend to cancer at 38, and DH's younger brother was accidentally killed at 16 (with DH's gun, but not by DH), and both DH & I have unresolved issues (well, not really "issues" but I can't think of a better word) with these people. So I guess I'd be one of those people who wanted to communicate with a specific person.

I think it would be neat to get an EVP. In fact, I've already joined a local EVP msngroup, LOL!
