Well I have been having some serious blockage lately. About every three days I get a major block. It is very painful of course and requires alot of work to unplug, warm massage adn expressing in the shower. It happens now on a regular baiss about every 5 days. The block occurs in the same spot every time. I spoke to a lactation consultant and she said that it is possible that I have very creamy, fatty hind milk that Naomi is unable to adequetly empty the breast.
I am very discouraged adn ready to give up even though I am not ready. This has been going on for a month though and I am sick of it.
Has anyone ever heard of a problem like this and do you know how I can be rid of it. Could there be a diet issue involved? The pain is intense!!!
My brain is too mushy this late to type anything out myself, but here are some great articles about plugged ducts. If it's in the same spot everytime it's possibly something physically blocking the milk flow in that spot - a too tight bra, sleeping on your stomach, diaper bag strap, sling, etc. Another quick tip which they probably mention in one of the articles I linked below is to nurse so that your baby's chin is pointing to where you have the plugged duct. I remember nursing my son upside down (we were lying in bed and his feet were up by my head) to get at a plugged duct. Feel free to post back with more questions or PM me if you want. (((((HUGS)))) this is a fixable problem.

You can take lecithin to help with the plugged ducts...

I don't have a lot to add but just wanted to say not to give up just yet... How old is your dd? Tiny, I'm assuming? Niri kind of touched on it, but I would suggest changing positions. A duct that she may not be empyting properly or can't get to at a certain angle, she might be able to reach it from another. KWIM?
Another option would be to try pumping some. It might take a little bit to figure out exacatly how much to pump until she's able to get past the creamier milk and get to the more watery stuff. A benefit to this is that you can freeze it for later. :)

When Holly was first born I use to get a blockage on my one breast. I found that nursing twice on that side before switching to the next helped tons. I would nurse Holly til she was full on my right side. The next feeding I would nurse her on that same side and then switched and repeated the process on the left. This helps to ensure your little one IS getting the hind milk. Also, massaging where the blockage was helped unbelievably. Please don't give up. The problem finaly went away with me and it has been 11 months and we are still going strong :) And no more blockage. HUGS. :) Good luck.
