After trying to mess with altering the KS pattern, I decided to copy a RTW shirt I know fits well. So, I dug out my favorite Gap v-neck tshirt and traced it. Doing the sleeves was a bit of a leap, since the shape traced was like no sleeve I'd used before. But, I gave it a whirl anyway. I used some knit that I suspect is Baby Nay, found at a Hancock's I scoped out after one of DSs away soccer games.

I'm very, very pleased with the fit! No real gapping above the boobs, nice little sleeves. I even got the tension right on my CS machine! I really like the shirt. However, isn't it bizarre how the flower placed there totally makes my right boob disappear? I keep cracking up at the pic.

For reference, here's how the real Gap shirt fits. I still want raglan tops, so I do need to figure out that fit at some point.

Thanks for looking!

I love that t-shirt. I have a few old gap t-shirts (literally around 10 years old!) that I love the fit of and just can't replace exactly right. I think I'll take a spin at copying them. You've inspired me. :)

Wow, great copy! I love the color of that fabric. And you're right about the boob--gone! Maybe you put some little applique there? Maybe your initial would look cool--kinda like Laverne's?

bwaahaahhaa ~ I just laughed out loud! How crazy is that? What an interesting optical illusion!!!

Anyway, the shirt is fab! It really looks great on you and I think you did a great job copying it; it's quite a feat to copy things without cutting them up, isn't it? LOL

Now, where's your head? :D

Great job on the copy, Heather! The shirt looks great on you, too. The fit seems to be *much* better than the one you had the fit issues with!

That turned out fantastic!
All these great Gap knock offs lately are making me want to go out and buy a Gap shirt just so I can trace it. LOL

I love the shirt, it fits you great, even if you are a boob short. That is a weird optical illusion!

That shirt does fit you nicely! I once tried tracing a RTW shirt and chickened out at the sleeve part. Good for you! I really love that fabric too.

it fits great!

One way to make a raglan is to make another t out of crappy awful cheap fabric from your new pattern (don't finish hems or necklines or anything) and then put it on and take a marker and make lines in the right place and then take it off and cut the tshirt up to make a new pattern from.

I've done this to play with necklines etc.

It doesn't turn out exactly the same because the set in sleeve is bunchy when you cut it off the body along the diagonal line, but its not hard to make it work, yk? Don't forget to add seam allowances where you cut once you transfer the pattern to paper.

 Great shirt!

I should try tracing a RTW that I like as well. The tracing of the sleeves just sounds like a chore, though.
