I decided it's high time I moved past knitting dishcloths. So I am going to attempt the Booga bag. http://www.blacksheepbags.com/booga_bag.html
This part
* Pick up and knit twisted 16 stitches along first edge of rectangle. There are 17 ridges, so you just pick up one stitch between each ridge.
* Pick up and knit 34 stitches along the bottom of your rectangle.
* Pick up 16 stitches along last edge as you did for the first edge.
has me totally confused though. What is "knit twisted" mean??? Pick up means I put my needle in between stitches and knit an extra stitch there, right? So that's all I'm doing for the last line right?

I'm not really sure what knit twisted means. Maybe knit through the back of the loop??? Anyway, I made the Booga Bag and I just did my best to pick up a stitch between each ridge and the correct # along the sides and then I just plain old knitted them on my circular needles. The whole thing is felted so the subtle differences are lost. At least ime. Of course a knowledgable knitter may tell you otherwise. ;)

I have no idea what the "knit twisted" means. But the pick up part isn't what you're thinking it is, I think. From reading your description it sounds like your way is a method of increasing....when you pick up the bar between 2 stitches and put it on the needle.

When you hit that point in the pattern you'll have a rectangle that is the bottom of the bag. There will only be stitches on one end of that rectangle...34 stitches. In order to start knitting in the round you need stitches on the other 3 sides of the rectangle. So you need to "pick up" stitches....or create some where there aren't any.

So along the short side of the rectangle, where there are 17 ridges, you will pull 16 loops of yarn up from between the ridges and put them on a needle...like this

http://www.yarnware.com/web/yarnware/yarnware.nsf/0/f65a28c8bcdb25c385256d28001033a3?OpenDocument

And you'll do the same thing 34 times at the bottom of your rectangle (the cast on edge).....and 16 times on the other short side. Now you have stitches all the way around your rectangle and you can knit in the round.

Hopefully someone who has made it can elaborate on the "knit twisted" part. I'm not that experienced yet...I'm only book smart when it comes to reading patterns lol.

I *think* I've got it now. :D I ended up emailing the pattern designer too. She gave me this link for knit twisted http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/knitting/index.html but I was still kind of confused about where to pick up stitches. I think I got it now. It's probably one of those things that is confusing until you are actually doing it, right? Danielle that animated link is AWESOME! Thank you both so much!
Shannon...did you post pics of your bag? I wanna see.

Kewl!! I found a yarn shop here that carries Noro so I'm gonna go check it out and get my yarn sometime next week. Can't wait to knit something other than dishcloths. LOL!
