Hi all,

my stepmother wants to knit things for my dds. It will probably be with acrylic yarn as that's what she can find easily.

How do you care for acrylic knits? Can you machine wash and dry them with the regular laundry? I don't know the first thing about knits...

TIA! :)

Usually all yarn has instructions on the label regarding care. My experience with acrylic is that it washes up and dries fine. I Have afghans made by relatives in it. It's pretty sturdy.

Acrylics are perfect for washing and drying by machine. Well you might want to go easy on the drying part. Superwash wool would also be easier to care for but for soakers/diaper covers you will need wool that is not superwash to absorb humidity.

Jo, where do you buy yarn locally? Any favorite places?

If you are looking for the true yarn store eperience I suggest Mouline Yarns (http://www.moulineyarns.com/), the store is near A****er & Notre-Dame. It has mostly high end yarns but they are niiiiiiice. There's a few yarn stores too like on the plateau, if you prefer.

This might be a great way to learn to knit too. ;)

That censoring thing is too funny!! I could not figure out what was the name of the street until I looked at the site of the store LOL!

Thanks for the info! What places do you know on the Plateau? I've passed by La Tricoteuse, but I don't know if it's a good store or not. What other stores are there?

This might be a great way to learn to knit too.

Yeah, I feel the pull more and more!! But (un)fortunately, I *really* don't have any time for a new hobby. My fabric stash has gotten out of control and I want to sew enough to make it fit in one closet. But.... yesterday I was looking through the threads here and I would love to have a reason to make cute needles LOL! I think my stepmom is going to get an impressive array of those. ;)

Ariane, La Tricoteuse is ok, they have a HUGE saint-bernard dog but he mostly sleeps, still I was afraid to enter the store the 1st time I saw the dog. LOL! The couple that own the store are pretty "cold", I wouldn't suggest going with hyperactive kids, they'd have I stroke.

PM me next weekend and I'll email you a list of Montreal knitting stores if you want. :) I will beaway in Toronto this week for yarn purposes. LOL! They have GRRRREAT yarn stores there, I LOVE Toronto for that. teehee!
