I'm finally getting to the point where I'm ready to get sewing for the baby...
pretty set on diapers and ok on covers up to medium (which is the biggest my dd ever wore LOL!) - mainly b/c I didn't get rid of too many of those.

But, I gave away almost all my baby clothing! (and other stuff)

So, what should I make for this little baby who is due mid nov (in S. CA) and how many would you suggest. I didn't sew for my first two as newborns and had WAY too many clothes. We aren't finding out the sex (at least that's the current plan).

Also, approx, how much yardage is needed for nb gown/hat sets and for sleepers? (my babies seem to be LONG and THIN -- like 21-22.5 inch and 6-7.5 lbs after the first week)

What patterns are your favorite or do you suggest I try to buy?

Thanks.

I love KS 3090. It has a gown and a romper in it. I let someone borrow it, so I can't say for sure how much yardage. Reminds me that I need to get it back.

Baby gowns are my favorite for the first few months - I'd make them with gn prr that you can dye to be gender specific afterwards. Or solid colors. I like my babies to look like girls (or boys, lol) so that was the plan I went with.

I also like the look of the New Conceptions wrap shirt - haven't used it on a babe yet though! You can leave some with the hems undone, and lettuce edge for a girl, or hem regular for a boy (if you've got the same anal tendencies I have)

I love this ks pattern (2433)...the onesie and romper patterns are both super easy!

i second the new conceptions baby essentials idea. i love the cross-top pattern because it's fun to use coordinating fabrics with and it also goes together really easily. i'm waiting on 3090 in the mail. :)

i think the 3090 pattern is the best idea - i used both the romper and gown for ian, but i much prefer the romper since i can use it at home or out and about (gowns are in the way in a carseat yk?)...i also like the new conceptions pattern that has the wrap top (baby essentials?)

Do you have Ottobre? I loved the footie pants from one issue and the laptee/onesie from another... I ended up hating gowns. I don't like one piece things with snaps either.. I'm weird. It's just easy for me to pull his pants down for a change then to fiddle with all those snaps.

um yeah, you asked for how many right?

I would make 3-5 gowns for starters...this is the min. I'd make though, maybe even more (I LOVED gowns!)
