My boys have excess ear wax.

Last week at Cole check-up, the ped was digging around in there with what looked like a tiny metal q-tip. Needless to say Cole hated it. And she still couldn't get enough wax out to see into his ears.

Should I do anything about it? He's not having any hearing problems (he might have listening problems, but not hearing problems :) And his ears don't seem to bother him. And knock on wood he's never had an ear infection. Do I just leave them alone? How do you clean your 2 year old ears?

We took Truman in for this cough/fever he had and after she poked in his ears too and then told me he probably has an ear infection and gave us a script for antibiotics. I'd like to avoid them in the future. I bought some willow/garlic oil, can I use that on an infant? How do you know a baby (or a toddler for that matter) has an ear infection? He was not overly fussy or rubbing his ear.

I'm totally clueless about ears, ear wax, and ear infections.

What do I need to know?

In another forum Bran suggested hydrogen peroxide, it works wonders! I used it on myself first, really amazing and gentle too-

my cole has thick wax too. our ped has always recommended a drop of olive oil in each ear every day. seem to help it come out on its own. i usually just wipe in his ear with a wash cloth or qtip (just not inside)....

our ped also said to go ahead & put it in dd's ears (she is just a little older than your truman)
