A friend who was participating in a historic weekend asked me to make her dress. I'm thinking I have about 40 hours of work in it so far, and it's actually not quite finished yet.

OK, I was going to post those, but they're HUGE! I'm going to have to seriously resize them first. I've gotta run right now, but I'll try to get to them this evening after I get back from my dad's (gotta help with planting this afternoon)

I saw this earlier and checked back to see if you'd added pictures yet. That is impressive! Wow, what a lot of work. She owes you a big favor, I'd say :)

Can you image actually having to sew the entire thing by hand? Like they did in the olden' days....

Whew, finally able to make it back!
Here's the back detail:

the front (her hand is covering an unfinished part ;oops: )

and the flounce, which when it comes back to me to finish it, I need to rip out the machine hem and finish the hidden hand-sewn one... after an hour and a half and I had only gotten half-way around, I decided to give up, machine-stitch it, and do it right when I actually had the time

Actually, (and Heather/frogsnladybugs will tell you how sick I am for this) I kinda enjoy hand-work. Sometime this year, I'm hoping to make one for myself since DH and I are seriously thinking about joining a re-enactment battery, and I'm toying with the idea of going completely authentic... i.e. doing it by hand, undergarments and all. We'll see if I actually do the entire project by hand, but I'm wanting to at least hand-sew the dress.

OH, I've made civil war clothes, as well as medieval. They are a pain, but somehow very satisfying. I can't see your second pictures, but the first one is wonderful. WTG!

Thanks! Yes, it's very satisfying. :D
I had the same problem when I viewed it last night... I think all I had to do was right click, then click "show picture" and it came up.
