I LOVE IT!!!!
Austin started yesterday and got none of the words right. He wasn't upset about it, which kind of surprised me. I figured I would hear laments of how he couldn't do anything... but he didn't. (whew)
Today he did the lesson again and got 6 right. The ones he missed were very close, much closer than yesterday's attempts. And he is 'getting' the rules. Already I can see he is going to do well with this, and it is a huge relief.
We had started using a couple of different spelling programs, but none really helped. He wasn't really getting the rules, and he was just memorizing things for the test, then totally not putting them into practice.
If you are looking for a non-workbook based spelling program, you may want to look closer at this program. It's put out by Institute for Excellence in Writing (www.writing-edu.com). They have a sample lesson on the website for you to hear. What I love is it's all on him. He listens to his spelling words, he listens to the proper spelling, he corrects them - and he can't move on to the next lesson until he is able to spell ALL of the words correctly twice in a row! It may take him a couple of weeks to get the first lesson down pat... but he will have it down pat. THAT is what I am hoping will happen for him, that he will learn things all the way - not just half-arsed.
Just had to share.
