I'm making a monthly donation through Emi Beans to a variety of charities (a percentage of sales each month) and was hoping that you fine ladies would recommend some of your favorites.
I can't promise all will be used, or what order they'll be in, but soon you'll be able to see the featured charity each month at Emi Beans. Thank you for your help!

American Cancer Society
Lupus Foundation of America
Those are the three we donate to each year. More to the Kidney Foundation now in memory of my father.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
When I was doing Team in Training, I remember reading or hearing somewhere that they have one of the highest rates of money donated actually being used for research purposes rather than administrative costs -- something like 72% or higher.
Leukemia is the #1 killer of children under the age of 15 and that just tears me up.

Well, different from the previous posters, but:
La Leche League!
I truly believe that breastfeeding is important on so many levels:
health
social justice
economics
not to mention the "feel good" stuff.

Emi Beans is donating a percentage of sales each month to various charities, and I would love to donate to causes that are near and dear to the hearts of the women at AW. If you have a favorite charity, will you post it here, or pm me, so I can compile a list of suggestions? I can't promise all will be used or what order they'll be in, but you'll be able to see on the site (monthly) the charity receiving the donation.
Thanks!! :)

Adding my plug for La Leche League. I'm also a big supporter of Co-op America and their National Green Pages. Sierra Club, too. Also American Lung Association. Right on with Breast cancer Research too. Donated my hair to Locks of Love. Anything that helps children!

Ditto on the Heifer org. This year we only gave the kids gifts at the holidays. The rest of our family friends etc. got donations in thier name made to Heifer. Too cool.

My Mom has been diabetic since age 6, and my son's best friend also developed diabetes at a young age...

My best friend's daughter has cystic fibrosis, and I highly recommend http://www.cff.org/home/ and

No matter what you choose thank you for being thoughtful enough to make a donation. :)

Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics and LLL.
We've had to spend several nights (weeks, actually) at various RMHs due to DD#1 hospitalizations and have been grateful. Say what you will about the McDonalds food and business policies, RMH is awesome.
We have a nephew who participates in Special Olympics each year even though DD will probably never be able to do so (her challenges are many and profound), it is also an awesome organization.
And I totally agree with LLL.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to give me your input. :) For April, we'll be making a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the "Great Strides Walk" on May 29. (Wendi has more information on this that she'd be glad to send you, I"m sure.)
Thanks again, and please feel free to add to this thread with more ideas, or PM me if you'd rather.

Since I had some good friends who used Ronald McDonald house I HAVE to say that if I am ever in a position to donate this is where my $ will go.My friends who used them were treated so wonderfull and there were so many touching people who entered their lives through the RMH.
They told me about an older lady who lived next to one of the houses who used to bring flowers from her garden and would sometimes bring pies for the families.
Ahhh warm fuzzy! ;)
