View Full Version : Getting close to 6pm! H-E-L-P! Cranky baby time!
For the last 4 to 6 week or so Landon has consistently been CRANKY from 6pm-8pm. During those times he wails no matter what we do :( Sometimes things we try may work for 10 minutes and sometimes they won't. There is no reason I can find for him be so miserable although at times it seems like it's his teeth or his tummy. I am at a loss!
We have tried alone and in combination:
Singing
Rocking
Dancing
Playing
Walks
Taking him outside
Taking him into a dark quiet room
Baths
Massage
Toys
Cold or frozen wash cloths
Teething tablets
Music
Now we just leave the house between those times but we can't stay in one place for long or we end up with him wailing. Like last night we went to my moms and he did well between 6-7pm but he wasn't happy from 7-8pm there. If we went to my sister's or a friends and changed the scenery @7pm he may have calmed back down but I am getting so exhausted doing this! Not to mention the other kids have a routine before bed and don't have enough time if we don't get home until 8pm.
I know this too shall pass but until then any suggestions? This can't be colic right? He's to old for that I thought. I am at a loss!
Many thanks!
I'm so sorry KD. My Robyn did the same thing around that age, and I thought the same thing, seems like colic but arent' they too old??
Now the weather is nicer, can you go for a long stroll with Landon in the sling What if you got the other kids bathed and in their PJ's before you go. We used to do this with Raynbow when she was about 5 or 6, she loved to be out in her 'jamies' and to be honest probably nobody could notice they were pj's. Put their boots, or shoes and a jacket over them, put Landon in the sling, and out you go. Heck it's a good idea even if your baby isn't cranky. :)
good luck

That was my Willow!Only her 'cranky time' was from 5-9 every single night. No matter what we did. Wish I had some magic words, we would trade off and try to stay sane. Dh did get her to calm down watching 'Power Puff Girls' in a dark room. The light flashes would distract her. Yes, it's horrible but I would be ready to bawl from stress and Dh did what it took to keep all 3 of us semi calm. Thankfully, the phase only lasted 3 months or so.

Jacob went through whatever that is to, right on time everyday LOL
(Boy I hope Samantha doesn't do this)
Anyways besides going for a ride in the car... he always falls asleep in the car (still does at 5 LOL)
He had to bounce.
One of us would sit on the edge of something, his head tucked up by ours, patting his bottom, and bouncing LOL We had to take turns because it makes you tired.... swinging sideways motion or rocking didn't work, had to be a bounce.
Hope he passes this phase soon!!!!

We also did the bounce. We used my birthing ball to sit on and bounced and bounced. Maizy also liked the vaccum and the washer. (she may have been a bit younger than Landon)
But of course, Nursing was always #1 on the list. I nursed both children whenever they cried and that did the trick 99% of the time.

ds had cranky time when he was 3 or 4 months old. what worked ok for us was a swing.
I cant recall if dd had a cranky time but I remeber having NASTY gas for a month or so around that age.
my thought is that it may have been to everthing growing and adjusting so fast in those tiny little bodies.

i know this sounds obvious, so it may have already occurred to you or you may have already tried this-- but in elizabth pantley's "the no-cry sleep solution" she suggests getting a baby to bed earlier rather than later-- like between 7-8 p.m. at the latest. she said some babies like going to sleep even at 6:30 p.m., and that in her opinion, maybe that "fussy hour" that grandparents always used to talk about was actually the baby communicating that it wanted to go to sleep.
just another thought.
good luck!
