The first is Ariel's Easter Dress. The top is bright orange velour. I wanted something bright and fun and found this adult 80/20 velour top on clearance... so I took it home and chopped it up to make the bodice of her dress. The trim is that thin velvet ribbon from WalMart... they have every color except orange, lol. So I used hot pink. I used a pattern for the skirt, but it's sort of a circle skirt style.

I keep feeling like it needs *something* at the waist. But since it's ice-cream fabric, I don't want to go overboard either. I decided to just leave it as-is, with a casual sort of feeling to it. There's also a matching Starleigh headband that I made after Easter for her to wear with it. :)

Second is another attempt to get a Hanna-esque playdress. The last one I made was with the dropped-waist bodice, so I tried one with the short bodice and full skirt to see which I liked best, lol. I was going to put ribbing at the neckline, but it turned out so wide, I didn't. It's just turned under and stitched with a double needle. The shorts have a rolled edge. The fabrics are a LOT more vivid & bold blue IRL, the sunlight washed it out quite a bit. :shake: But, overall it turned out cute when she's wearing it. lol And, again, I know what I need to do differently next time (less boxy, maybe shorten the bodice a tad bit more). Except the neckline... I've always been intimidated by ribbing and knits, so... I'm not sure what I'll do about that...

Great work. I *love* that first dress...she looks beautiful. You made a younger print look very grown up.

She picked out the fabric for the ice-cream dress. I bought a ton of it, planning to make something for my mother (a true ice-cream lover, lol!) but went with her idea after seeing the Gymboree ice-cream sherbet dresses that were so cute.

Ariel now wants a matching dress for her little sister... and her Mom... and her Grammy....

Both are very cute, love the icecream dress. The Kwik Sew patterns have really good instructions on how to do ribbing, I learned using the KS for toddlers book.

Both dresses are great, but I really like the ice cream dress. The sleek lines and colors are awesome. And you were right to leave it as is. I do like that neckline/ shoulder.

Cute cute cute!! Love the ice cream dress. I agree it really made it a "older" looking print and not so babyish. I'll have to check out the thin velvet ribbon at WM. Tori has a Hanna shirt that she   with crisscross thin velvet ribbon on it. I'm still trying to get the chocolate ice cream out of it. :shake:

Love the Hanna-esque dress... now to find some pretty color wide stripe cotton knits...
