If you and your spouse/partner speak a different language and you homeschool, how do you do it?

I mean do you teach in English or in your native language?
DH is worried that Vidura will pick up my accent and "bad" English. I want to homeschool him in French but the curriculums and books are way too expensive. Or maybe I should look into it in Quebec instead of France?

How do you do it?
What do you think?
Like technical words for maths and science I'm not at all familiar with, I don't always know how to pronounce them. I can speak and understand English okay, but I never "studied" it, the grammar and all. I just learned it from being in England and then in the US.

Any opinion or advice will be greatly appreciated :)

how do you do things now? I know that sounds like a very non-helpful question lol but really.... do you mostly speak French to him? or English? how important is it that he learns French?

If getting workbooks in French is a probably maybe teach in English but anything not workbook related is done in French. Don't be afraid of your "bad English" just get a good dictionary and don't be afraid to look up the pronuciations of things.

I personally am not much of a workbook/text book person so I would likely read English books in English and make sure we had French reading books as well (if I was fortunate enough to be bilingual that is lol)

I have a friend who's dh is Hispanic and she is American, he speaks only to the kids in Spanish and she only in English and it's working out wonderfully for the kids.

from my somewhat limited research, he'll be "hindered" till he's a certian age, then it balances out, somewhat like toddlers who read and stuff at super young ages, it balances out later.

so really, i wouldn't worry about it.

i know, telling a mama to worry is silly but it's all i have besides

You could offer a homeschooling curriculum in English, but if you weren't comfortable explaining in English switch to French. Really I think it would be helpful to learn in both languages, as the child would develop a more extensive vocabulary in both languages.

Alternately you could teach math in English, Science in French, etc. Just because the material you purchase is in English, doesn't mean you have to speak English in the lesson. It might mean a little more prep time, but it could be worth it.
