based on what I have been reading here, and the advice I have received from friends I think that I will start with SOTW for our history lessons.

Evan loves to read and I think I will let him continue with the books he enjoys and try to orient some other activities around those books.

I need to settle on a math curriculum and a handwriting curriculum.

As for Science - I was thinking of taking a more un-school appraoch and seeing what grabs his attention at the zoo, in books, etc, and go from there.

HE is also REALLY into all kinds of music. HE loves his recorder, guitar and drum, and is always banging on the keyboard.

I would appreciate any suggestions you Mamas might have.

TIA! Ashley

For music, you might want to look at the Usborne Beginning books. They have one for Recorder, Keyboard, piano etc...

Let us know what you decide on Math. We have been using M-U-S and various workbooks. We will probably switch to Singapore next Year. For handwriting I like the Getty and Dubay Italic series. It is all a matter of preference.

Oh yeah - math!!! :joker:

He is really good at math. Gets it from his dad! He loves numbers and actually he and his dad were playing yahtzee monday night and DH was teaching DS multiplication and DS caught on!

Singapore was recommended to me too. I might have a go at that.

From what I read and from looking at the Singapore texts, it looks alittle more challenging and encompasses a lot of analytical skills. My DS is the same way regarding math skills. I had actually purchased another curriculum for 2nd grade, but at first glance I knew DS would be bored with it. Over half of it would be review. There are manygood math programs, so it is kinda hard to choose.
