They sound great, but I wonder, what is the water-based inert inner lining that won't leach harmful chemicals?

What's it made from? Is it realy safe?

I have no idea...good question. We just recently bought three of the SIGG and I love them but am now wondering about the liner.........

We also bought some Klean Kanteens and I like those too, but they are large. (too large for our younger ones to carry)

You know, everyone thought that some of the plastics were ok. Now, they aren't. So, what is this mysterious inner liner in the Sigg? I'd hate for it to be safe now, but not later. I'm looking for a kids size water bottle for dd. We have a big stainless thermos type. We also use resealable glass bottles, but some places don't like you to bring glass. I was hoping the Sigg bottles would be the thing for us.

I've been watching this guy's eBay auctions for them. He has 3 sizes for kids:

I just can't hit the Bid button until I know they are safe.

If you do decide to get the SIGG....you can get them for less through a co-op. There are a couple yahoogroups that offer SIGG via co-op. That is where I got mine.

There is one co-op going on right now that I know of.

I've actually got a couple kids Sigg bottles & a strap that i have just because I bought extra so we could meet minimums. I could sell them to you if you decide to get some. Just PM me if you want them :)

I know this was discussed on Mothering once. I think it's the same stuff that lines aluminum cans but I can't remember what it is now. According to Sigg it's very safe. ;)

I have no idea, Marcey-I did buy 2 of them for dd...in case she goes off to school. Klean Kanteen is coming out with kid sized water bottles in July. I LOVE their adult sized. And honestly for your dd the adult sized is not too big. It has a stainless top-they are FAB! You can also purchase a strap carrier for it. Debby will coop Klean again when the come out with the kid sized.

I do know that food grade resin in canned foods leaches bisphenol-A which mimics estrogen. I think an email to SIGG is in order to ask them if it is the same.

I am thrilled Klean Kanteen is coming out with smaller ones! I must have missed that info!!!

I think I'll just order the kids Klean Kanteens when they come out. I LOVE the klean kanteen I have and take it everywhere with me.

I did get the hemp cover which is nice since the kanteen seems to "sweat" a lot.

Is someone cooping the klean kanteens right now?

Not that I am aware of but debbys co-op will do on this summer and the kids klean kanteen should be available by then.....from what I am understanding. (but I'm not the horses mouth on this)

I'm not really impressed with the sigg bottles. I got a couple in the co-op Debby ran and they dent very easily. I liked that they were smaller than the klean kanteens so I got one for Karis (she can't use it yet though). I sold the others that I bought. For the price (even the co-op price) I just don't think they're all that great. I'm also concerned about the liner.

I bought three klean kanteens for each of my older children (2,4 and 6) and they are awesome! I sewed them each a little carrier for them so they have a cute print to comptete with the siggs. I actually like the larger size because I fill it up for them in the morning and they drink from it all day. I would definitely say it's not too big for Hadyn.

I'm anxiously awaiting the sippy cups they are supposed to be coming out with and I'm also going to get myself one this time around (one of the bigger ones-- not a sippy cup :D ). I've been using the glass bottles (such a good idea, Marcey!) but I'm afraid I'm going to break them one of these days (plus people always think I have an open beverage in my car, rofl!)

Can someone tell me what the coop price was on the smaller (bike size) klean kanteen? I'm just trying to decide if I should wait for a coop or not.

Can someone tell me what the coop price was on the smaller (bike size) klean kanteen? I'm just trying to decide if I should wait for a coop or not.

It was almost $8 for the bottle with a sports top ($9.?? for the stainless lid) plus a co-op fee (10% then but I think it's 13% now).

The first one I got was from Michelle's coop (Green Tara Mama) and it was $19. Then I got 2 more (cheaper) from greenfeet.com

My almost 5 yo uses one with no problem.

Where can I find Klean Kanteen? I'd like to see a picture of them. I almost jumped on the SIGG co-op but I had just ordered a bunch of toys, but I think I'd prefer the Klean Kanteen. Especially if debby is doing another coop this summer. I've got to get rid of all these plastic cups and sippy cups. Where do ya'll get glass drinking bottles? I used to get them from Mountain Valley Spring water, when I had it delievered but I don't do that anymore. And I've long since lost all the itty bitty bottles.

TIA

We get our glass bottles from Virgil's Root Beer. The 16 oz size comes in re-closable glass bottles. My dh loves Virgil's, though we only buy it once in a while. We bought the big size so we could keep the bottles and re-use them (they are a bit pricey). We've only broken one in the 2 years we've been doing it. Unfort, when you drink from them in public, people think you're guzzling a bottle of real beer. ROFL DD gets some crazy looks when she uses them. Except for the fact that they can break and that they are a bit heavy, I like them a lot. You can see a bottle here:

Here is the Klean Kanteen link:

http://www.kleankanteen.com/

We really are pleased with ours. We did get the carrying straps for when we are on vacation or out walking. We also got the hemp insulated bags, which I am so glad we got as the bottle will get cold to the touch when you have cold liquid in it. (and I'm assuming hot when hot is in it) I also got the screw on caps so we can use these in our children's lunch boxes to hold soups.

The only bummer is that it is too big to fit into the water bottle cage on my mountain bike (the site says they fit...but it does not fit my bike) and I bike a lot when the weather is good. I'm ordering a SIGG to use with my bike....I figured it was better than the plastic water bottle that I've been using on my bike.

I was looking at getting them here:
http://www.greenfeet.com/klean-kanteen-stainless-steel-water-bottle.html
about the same price as the coop and no wait.

Thanks for your help everyone! I decided against the Sigg and got a Klean Kanteen with stainless steal lid. I'm not comfortable with the inner liner on the Sigg. So, we're now set for the summer. Yay!

Have a great Spring!!!

Cool - what size did you get? We drink a lot but I was worried the 40 oz would be too difficult for Kate to manage.

I'm looking at getting these too. We have polycarbonate bottles right now. :shake:

Hey mama I wanted to LYK I thought this was a great idea! I was doing mason jars but they are jsut too bulky and I gave up! UNtil I get a klean kanteen I thought I would look for this rootbeer.
SO I checked BevMo and they had it on the web site. I went to the store and they didn't :( BUT I did find a sparkling Lemonade there in a 1.5pt (I wanted a big one anyway) with the same top! Yeah! :D
So while I couldn't find the one you wrote about I found one just as good- thanks so much for posting that!

I don't know how much you use jelly, but you can get small kids sized jars by using jelly jars. Some of the jelly jars even have handles.

OH I never thought of that (too)! That would be perfect for DS!
Many thanks!
