Looking for the best price...

I need to call in the morning to talk to the doctor...the nurse was supposed to call back :rolleyes: but didn't.

Anyways after playing transfer me everywhere they thought I should try Reglan .. but I'm not sure if our insurance will cover it.

So I was doing a search to see what it was. What I found says

If the doc is going to prscribe Reglan can I figure its safe to get Domperidone?

Reglan crosses the blood/brain barriar. It has major side effects, sleep disturbances and depression, and cannot be taken for extended period of time. Domperidone on the other hand does not cross the blood/brain barriar, very minimal side effects, usually thirst and headaches the first week. It can be taken the entire time while nursing and/or pumping. Many of us get is cheapest from a NZ pharmacy. No script is needed.

Don't use Reglan. Domperidone is only available in the US from a compounding pharmacy, with a prescription. You can order it from overseas.

I had my script filled at People's Pharmacy for about $75

Talked to the nurse again. She said he tried to get them to cover it but they won't... I guess because she can drink formula.

I'm down to about 9 ounces a day. I guess that is better than none at all though.
But my pump is starting to make a funny noise again...this is the second one, shes only 8 weeks old, guess they aren't made to use all the time lol

You can get it here in the US for a compounding pharmacy, but you do need an Rx. I pay about $50 for 120 pills. It may be cheaper from oversea's, I never checked.

100 10 mg pills are $30 ($20 plus $10 shipping) or 300 10mg are $50 shipped ect ect lol

I can't decide if I should try or not. By the time I have extra cash and wait for shipping I'm not sure if I'll have much left.... been getting less each day :(

I've been drinking Mothers Milk Tea and taking the F pills but I guess they aren't helping to much ... or maybe they are and I wouldn't have any if I wasn't taking them.. I don't know LOL

There is no profit in marketing in the US. There was also a big lawsuit with Propulsid which I think it made by the same company. There is about zilch for gastrointestinal medications. I know I got flack from a medical student because my son takes Zelnorm. He can't take Reglan because it only works on the stomach and is not recommended for people who have epilespy. Propulsid is very strict on what you take with it. I know a mom who had to talk about giving her child Tylenol while on it.


Which of course has nothing to do with WHY your taking it. LOL

What kind of pump are you using? Can you afford a hospital grade rental? A quality electric pump should not be giving out after 8 weeks - many moms pump for long periods of time either because they have a preemie in the hospital or because they work (or are simply exclusive pumpers) - these women are not buying new pumps every 2 months.

I feel like I've missed some major information about why you're pumping. You do know that babies are more efficient than pumps at extracting milk, yes?

First I was using a Evenflo Comfort, now I'm using a Medela, both electric.
I've tried changing outlets, taking everything apart and putting it back together and replaced the plastic valve thingy. But it is sounding strained, liked its really having to work... does that make sense?, its hard to explain.....its what they evenflo did before it gave up on me.

From the prices I've seen online talking about rentals, I can't afford to rent one, or buy one of the fancy high end ones. I've called all the pharmacys and the only med supply store local...haven't found a place that rents them....was going to see if insurance would pay for one.
The town she was born in is bigger and might have one. But then nurse said insurance wouldn't cover that either... I thought if the doc ordered it they could order one even if they didn't normaly carry them ykwim

I couldn't get her latched on right and it hurt like I don't know what, brought tears lol ...the delivery didn't hurt that bad.

It worked for me. I have a low supply caused by thyrod problems. If I run out of the domperidone I can really tell. Without I'm lucky if I can pump 1/2 oz and with I get about 2 oz. I still have a low supply but it's better then what it would be without it!

So I started pumping. The people I talked to said it would help my nipples (inverted)... and they are better now than they where.
I have gotten her latched on right (no pain, her happy, can tell shes swallowing ect) since then. Actually she "nursed" when I got off earlier... not sure if she got much though since I had just pumped.

I guess I have a problen with not being able to know how much she is getting... Like everyone says she would make more than the pump.... But if I'm not getting enough to feed her I can't very well take her bottles away ykwim

I live in Moberly, closest LLL is Columbia. I think thats who the L&D nurse sent me to...See I called my OB she is gone all week so they transfered me to L&D. Talked to a nures there,she transfered me to another lady, then on to a doc. He said I need RX for the Reglan, but insurance won't cover it, and it sounds like its not very safe.

Have you tried getting her to latch anymore? If you could work on that, maybe she would latch better and help increase your supply. I would definitely contact LLL if you havent already. Maybe they could help to work on getting her to latch and help you find a better pump.

Have you tried eating oatmeal to increase supply? how often are you pumping? if you pump more often that could signal your body to produce more. hope you can figure something out.
