This sew and show is brought to you via the inspiration of starleigh (see original sewalong here: http://www.amitymama.com/vb/showthread.php?t=204734&highlight=headband ), the sewing expertise of my little sister Tobey who is 8yrs old and my photo taking and direction writing- Enjoy!

Materials:

6"x14" piece woven fabric
2.5"x11" piece woven fabric
7" piece of 3/4"elastic

Step1: Assemble your supplies
http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 001.jpg

Step2: Using 1/4-3/8" seam allowances (use this throughout), sew woven fabrics right sides together along long side. This will make two long tubes.
http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 003.jpg

Step3: Turn your tubes right sides out and press, centering the seam. (to flip the small tube I had to sew the small end closed and use my 'turn it all', cool notion from JoAnn's, and then trim the end off)

Step4: Next thread your elastic through the small casing

http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 005.jpg

Step5: You are now going to make an elastic and fabric tube sandwich. Center your small tube, with elastic inside, right sides together with the large tube.
http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 006.jpg

Fold one side of the large tube over the elastic casing.

Fold other side of large tube over elastic casing.

Step6: Sew over end, I go back and forth 3 or so times.
http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 009.jpg

Step7: Do the same with the opposite end.
http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 010.jpg

Step8: Pull the stitched ends so that the headband is complete.
http://www.teamhadjes.com/aw/sewing2005/sewalong_headbands 011.jpg

Step9: Wear and enjoy!

That is my sister's 1222, since we were at my mom's. I love it too. I spent time today sewing on all the machine's at my mom's house. I was binding minkee and minkee and it was slipping and sliding all over while I was working on her DesignerI, not horrible- more just what I expect when working with this fabric. When I ran out of thread I opted to just move over to the 1222 and oh my goodness it was lovely- everything feeded lovely!

Oh, THANK YOU!!! I read and re-read the original instructions, and though they were very well written, I could not wrap my tired brain around the process. I guess I'm a more visual person than I have realized, lol!!

These will be awesome for spring/summer. :D

Thank you! :smooch: This is the first Sew-along I've printed out in a long time. Can't wait to make matchy-matchy headbands for me & Lydia. I'll be using my Featherweight for this project. ;)

I agree with Barb, except I don't have a featherweight. I'm already envisioning matching headbands for all the girls outfits. I made one for Ellie for one of her back to school outfits, but it was kind of a fly by the seat of my pants thing and it didn't turn out that well. Ellie and Isabelle both love headbands!!

Sarah, I love that Eiffel tower fabric too. Do you remember where you got it? :)

I got it from a local quilt store. I don't remember the manufactorer but the name is Holiday in Paris I believe. It is the prettiest 'christmas' fabric that isn't blatently Christmasy I've found. This project concluded the very last of my scraps of this (except 2 6" squares that went in my 'someday' quilt basket).

Thanks mamas, this really is a fun and fast project- enjoy!

The Eifel tower fabric is from In the Beginning.

I sewed up one of these this morning, and it went together super easy. Great instructions and photos. I really like these projects that only take a few minutes, I can actually finish these and feel like I have accomplished something. Thanks for your efforts and time :)

Thank You :)
I'm finding that I can use up each fat quarter of fabric I haven't used yet to make coordinating headband and small dream pillow (filled with rice or flax seeds and lavender flowers) set.

I'm endebted :D Again Thanks

I hate doing these so much now I couldn't even imagine cutting for one, or mulitiples in different fabrics. lol.. so basically, I never make singles... Here's the cutting adaptation for multiples....

cut a strip 6" wide and the full 45" width of the fabric, then do a 2 1/2" strip the same way. Sew them and turn them, cut the wide one in thirds and the narrow one in forths, and you now have enough for three, plus a spare elastic casing. (since I really do multiples, I cut four wide strips and three narrow so I come out even an even dozen, lol)

Remember, multiples are great for pinatas and party bags. :D
