I am getting ready to have my order ready to place soon (as soon as dh gets his DLA for moving) - and I have $1000 to spend. I am planning on that being mainly for Austin and Nate right now... I can do Adam and Lauren later.
This is what I am thinking:
Core 3
Science 3
Lyrical Science 1 & 2 (and extra workbooks?)
extra History of the US workbooks (?)
extra science worksheets (?)
Singapore Math 3A&B kit
extra singapore workbooks
Kidspiration (I can't wait to get this! They are gonna love me!)
Should I just get one map? Or should I forego the one with Sonlight and get a laminated US and World one at the BX so I can have both sides out?
I was thinking that for Austin for Language Arts I would get Daily Grams and then Diagraming Sentences and Ridgewood Analogies 2. (we already have Wordly Wise 3000 for next year) oh yeah, also Phonic Zoo.
Am I missing anything?

Hey Heather!
We'll be getting SL3 soon too. I would definatley order the extra workbooks so both of the older boys have their own. My kids all have clear Rubbermaid boxes with lids that all of their things are in. They are just stacked up near where they usually do their work. Also, I liked the maps from SL, it think it is beneficial to start blank and have them fill things in. We are just finishing up SL2 and the map also has the words to all the "geopraghy songs" right on it and they like that. Not sure how it will be in SL3.
IMO, I wouldn't worry about getting Adam and Lauren anything formal yet, especially SL. I am sure you have enough already that you could pull some things together for them, and they can listen in if they want to. I think two SL cores, even if one is just PreK would be overwhelming. If you do decide to get it, it is a good introduction to how SL curriculum works though : )
Good luck with gettng your school stuff together and your move!

I would skip the extra history workbooks-- we do the questions orally because they're easy busywork. I'd also skip the LLS workbooks altogether-- the cds and books are enough on their own, as they're truly just a supplement. (Much of the book is filling in the words to the song or answering questions already covered elsewhere). We have two copies of the science sheets, but they can be done orally together too if you're looking for something to cut. I'd spend the extra money and get the SL map. We just tape it onto the table when we're using it with whatever side needs to be up. (Other maps are on the wall).

I actually prefer having color, pre-labelled maps. But I have a hard time with dry erase things because I'm left handed (my hand drags over what I just wrote). And I admit to getting confused when trying to find small countries on an outline map. For something that requires more than a quick pointing out I use the maps that are in the study guide.

We've done the core 3 histroy "workbooks" orally too. I think they are unnecessary busy work, though I do like reading the passages outloud to the kids, then asking them the questions.

Thanks, everyone!
And Kristan... Josiah is so much a child of yours! You couldn't deny him if you wanted to! Funny that we are along the same lines again... I think we are connected in the brain. ;) BTW - I really miss you guys. I wish I could be there when 'Strawberry' is born, sniff sniff sniff.
After I wrote this question last night dh suggested we just get a copier. ;)

BTW, the reason I like extra workbooks is because sometimes the girls like to sit and look through them or work ahead which works well for quiet time. It also reduces fighting (which I know your boys never do, lol!) We've also photo copied but it just didn't have the same effect as the bound, colorful workbook for them. I think it is smalll price to pay, especially if it works. If it doesn't, you will know not to do it next year.
And yes, Josiah does look like one of my kids. Alot like Camille and Steve. His hair is much lighter than all the others, even mine.
I wish you could be here when Strawberry is born too. Amy is already planning to miss it unless I let her induce me somehow. Dawn is due a couple days before me so she won't be here. Susan And Palmer are assisting, so Susan may be the first one here since she is only 10 minutes away.

Maybe we are talking about a different workbook LOL. I was talking about the history workbooks, they aren't colorful at all, just boring old black and white. Those are the only core 3 workbooks I can think of !?
