I was just wondering. I haven't shaved my legs since...well I can't remember...and i'm not hating it!

I voted yes...I shave everything that shouldn't be there! LOL Luckily for me, I am not that hairy of a person. And lucky for dh, he is very low on the hair, too, cause I would be going after him with the wax, too, if he was! LOL
I am not a fan at all of hair, if you can't tell! LOL None of my family is hairy, on both sides, so I grew up with smoothness, and I prefer it that way.

I'm a "selective shaver", LOL. I shave my underarms once a month or so in the winter, more often in the summer. I trim (not shave) my pubic area year round. I shave my lower legs when it's hot enough to wear shorts or capris, so I haven't shaved since the end of August. I would just not shave my legs year round, but it bothers DH and I respect his feelings. Plus, people stare and stay mean things (did you know that having hair on your legs is "gross"?).
It's such a tough issue for me. I want to believe that I shouldn't have to shave at all and that I have no reason to conform to cultural beauty standards. In reality I shave my underarms to stay drier and same with trimming my public hair. As for my legs, that's purely cultural.

I don't know how to vote here. I will shave more in the summer, but not shave in winter. I actually just spent an hour shaving last weekend, it's getting warm here and the hair was driving me crazy. I shave my armpits maybe every other month, and don't do anything to my pubic area, unless I am going swimming, then I clean up a bit....
I was going to ask this question myself!

I don't and my armpits are super hairy . My brother tells me I look like i've got Buckwheat in a headlock lol., my legs aren't very hairy at all though . Shaving is a giant pita in my opinion.

I naturally have very little body hair. I shave my legs probably 3-4x/year (in the summer mostly) or wax once. Shave the pits probably 1-2x/month. And, trim the bikini area only if I'm going out in a swimsuit.
I don't know what I'd do if I had more hair, because, frankly, shaving is boring and time consuming. I can easily get away with it, but don't know what my "policy" would be otherwise.

Interesting...I keep up with my underarms regularly, b/c it makes me feel dirty if it gets long...my pubic hair is only if I am going out in a swimsuit...and my legs well I used to be good but since I got preg, I just haven't cared and like I said in op I am not hatin it...so it may stay. It is warm here and I have been going out with hairy legs...but the hair is very long...I wouldn't do it at all...but like someone else said it bothers dh...so we'll see.

I can't stand to have underarm hair. It bugs me to death. I have been "grooming" the bush as long as I can remember. I rarely shave my legs, though. They aren't really that hairy anyway and I could care less what anyone but my dh thinks and he doesn't seem to care. When I do shave it clogs up the razor b/c it got so long in the first place and that is a pita. I must say, though, that I like the feel of sexy, smooth legs after I do shave with patchouli and jasmine oils rubbed into them. Mmmmm.

Yes I like the feel of clean shaven legs, but it only lasts about 1/2 a day and then they feel like, well, awful. That is why dh thinks I should not shave them at all, cause he doesn't like the pokey in between phase.
Mine get super hairy, but with light hair. It takes forever to shave when I do, but somethimes I enjoy the challenge, if I do not have the kids helping me.
Lately the kids have liked to fetch pads and tampons for me when I get dressed. They are pretty interested in the whole thing. I don't put tampons in in front of them, but I just know they are going to start talking to people about me "bleeding" so much....:juggle:

I'm a selective shaver, just the armpits regularly. My legs have fine blonde hair so I only shave if I have to wear panty-hose, which ain't often. I'm really self-conscious about my armpit hair though. One pit grows as fast and thick as a MiracleGro chia pet the other one gives me these long straight wisps like a twelve year old trying to grow a beard. It's freaky and I hate to see it let alone to show it. I don't shave much in the winter. I'm not inclined to shave any time or any where that no one's going to know but me.

I shave about 1x a week in the summer and about 1x a month in the winter...

i hate shaving. it hurts. everytime i shave my pits i get ingrown hairs and it hurts when my arms rub when i walk. now i only trim with clippers if their going to be seen out in public ( tank tops)
and i've notice with my legs in the winter i don't have hair all over i think because the hair must rub off or something because i always have pants/jeans on. i'll shave if i want to feel sexy but i don't think dh really cares either way. but no one likes pokkies lol
i only trim my bikini area for swimsiuts to. i figure if someone has a problem with it they should stop looking.
drew barrymore hasn't shaved her underarms for a while either
my dh just read this over my shoulder he thinks i'm wacked out lol
i told him "see dan there are other girls out there just lke me"

Pitts only here. I gave up shaving my legs when I was about 8 months pregnant and haven't looked back since. My hair is super fine and blond, you can't see my leg hair at all and now it's so much softer. I would quit shaving my pitts, but I feel so dirty when I do!

You don't have "In theory, Yes" as an answer!
In theory, yes, I shave my pits and my legs, and sometimes the bikini area....In reaility, I shave my armipits every few weeks and below my knees every few weeks in the winter. In the summer, I tend to shave more regularly when I'm wearing shorts, etc.

Well, if I was a woman, I don't think I'd shave a bit. I see a woman with hairy underarms or legs and think Yeah! Go on chica!
But of course, since I'm male, I have to do the opposite. I take mine down to a masculine minimum. :) I trim my underarms until there's very little there, and trim my chest hair out nice and thin, and even thin out down below if needed. But like so many mamas here, during the winter, I'm kind of a warm fuzzy bear due to personal neglect. LOL!
P.S. I hope nobody feels odd with me (because of my male-ness. I was born with it, sorry, can't do anything about it :D )replying to this slightly personal poll. It's been a while since I've posted and recognize many fewer mamas here than I did once upon a time. Amity's and this forum specifically has really helped me through a lot of adjustment in the past, and I'd hate to mess up a comfortable situation for anyone here. If it makes any uncomfortable, feel free to post it, or PM me.

My shaving revolves around when I am going to see my boyfriend LOLOL So usually once a week the legs get a top to bottom & my armpits get shaved as well. I don't like shaving my armpits too often as I get ingrown hairs very easily.
I trim my pubic area MOST times I wear a bathing suit.
If I didn't have a SO in my life, I would only shave for bathing suit purposes.
Sorry if this is TMI but I don't like to have a pokey pubic area & wouldn't like a pokey pubic area on my mate, its very distracting :joker:

Hey Ian, I was just thinking about you today noticing that I haven't seen you around in a while. :waving:
As for me I voted yes, I hate stubble, I hate hair. Fortunately I am blonde and have very fine hair on my legs so even in the summer I only have to shave about every 2 weeks, and that's for me, I probably could go 2 months before anyone notices. My pits get it every other day though, I wish they were like my legs
I am a freak too because I have virtually no hair on my arms. People accuse me of shaving my arms but I don't lol, but I have bert eye brows, go figure, my body is very wierd lol.
I even hate hair on my dh, I dont' mind his chest because it's not too bad, but ewww I make him nair his back all the time, i can't stand it

Well, I suppose that would depend. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you yet so I don't know much about you (except your shaving practices. LMAO!) If you are a straight man, it might bother me (but probably not, since this isn't even the "personal place" forum). well I voted but didn't really reply, then when I read everyone's response I had to jump in.
Is sort of shaving not like being a sort of vegetarian,
so I am both a non-shaver and a vegetarian.......all or nothing here
"I shave everything that shouldn't be there" I'm finding this a very interesting statement. who determines what should or shouldn't be 'there' ........the razor company??
not meaning to single anyone out.

I can not stand the feel of legs with hair. Ewww. It just ooks me out. And let me tell you, with the lack of time I have, and the way my half-Mexican self grows hair?! I have ooky, pokey legs most of the time....sigh...
I noticed when I did get ultra lazy, like a month in between, the hair got really soft. LOL. Dh was intrigued but still claims his preference was no hair at all. And while honestly I don't do it for him at all, I too prefer the no hair look and feel...plus I look thinner and tanner with smooth legs.
And pits too. And "down there" too. I'd love to be able to stand waxing, but I am a wussy. And unlike some people who can wax and have weeks of no hair, mine comes back within days. NOT worth the cost or pain of waxing for my hairy ass self. :wah:

And let me add that the 3 blade razors, disposie ones only for some reason, from Schick awesomely rock. I have tried others, 2 and 3 blade, head replaceable ones and disposie, and I swear by these.
Add in Aveeno shave gel and a hair reducing lotion, like Bath and Body Works one or Jergens one, and I can get 2 days of no hair out of shaving. Yipeee...
Hey, usually I only get 24 hours of smoothness!!!!

Shave the pits, not the legs... I have VERY blonde hair though... so you would not know unless you touched me... dh usually gets me to shave around our anniversery each year in May... sometimes once more in the summer... but I am fearfull of getting corse hair on my legs from shaving... so I don't do it more than that. A razor will generally last me about a year.
I am very lucky in the pube area... I don't have any hair in unwanted places. I have "porno" hair is what my dh calls it. Nothin' outside the ol' panty line ever... lol... I am just lucky with hair.
I DID just start to pluck a few eyebrow hairs though. I am getting my brow peirced soon and I want them to look as kempt as the rest of me does with out effort... so I have began to pluck... it doesn't bug me at all... except that it is one more thing to remember to do. :p

Interesting reading responses. If it "wasn't suppose to be there" I don't think it would grow there LOL
My dh doesn't care if I shave. I am extremely hairy (my legs are hairier than his) and I'm like Denise where it is poky within 24 hours. Dh would rather me have long silky hairs than poky ones.
Denise, waxing doesn't keep my hair gone for long, but it grows back less! I'd never waxed and Bernice/b'sknees convinced me to try. She's never shaved, her mother started her on waxing at 15, and she hardly has any leg hair. So she and I did an experiment. She waxed one of my calves and we left the other hairy (yes, it looked weird) and then we let the waxed one grow back in. It was so much less hairy than the other!! It was an amazing difference. So, I waxed that one again and let it grow. It has very little hair. Now I wax both, but not very often. Even when fully grown out, they don't have that much hair. Only the first waxing really hurt, after that I was able to do it myself. I do have a high tolerance to pain though.
That said, I feel like a traitor when I wax. I feel I am letting my girls down. I try to do it in hiding. I don't want them thinking they need to be ashamed of their body hair, or shave for society's sake, or for some man. If they *do* insist on getting rid of hair when they are teens, I will pay for them to get waxed though. It is so worth it over stupid shaving.
Nope! I don't shave anything that's supposed to be there...
which means, in my book, i don't shave.

I love Aveeno's shaving gel for senstive skin (i.e. no added fragrance) and the Venus Divine 3-blade razors :)
I am going to let my leg hair grow long for about a month before we go to the Florida Keys next month, then wax them the morning we leave (our flight isn't until 4:30pm). I have never waxed before, but I am hoping this will keep shaving to a minimum on the trip. Can you wax your pits too????

You can wax *everything* and some people do :)

03-12-2005, 06:04 PM
I believe it Allison. I know the lady who does my eyebrows says the same thing, and that she knows more than a handful of people who wax religiously for years...and suddenly stop growing any hair at all in those areas. Waxing pulls the hair from the root, and apparently can damage the root to the point of not being alive or growing much at all.
And it makes sense that waxed areas are softer hair re-growth, since a razor cuts the end of the hair, sharply...whereas waxing pulls the wholw hair out and allows a new one to grow in with no shaved, sharp end. Hrmmm, I think I'd go broke with as much wax as my hairy self would need though....lol. And my pain threshold is poor, very poor. LOL.

Even her chin. :wah: She, another friend, and I had a winter leg show off yesterday. Very sunny day, all sitting in the sun, playing with babies, got warm rolled up our shorts and low and behold... Well, I said that, and the answer is me. I decide what hair should or shouldn't be there on my body! I hate hair anywhere but on the top of the head, eyebrows, and eyelashes are okay. And that goes for guys as well as girls! LOL I shave my lower legs (cause my upper legs is nonexistent), pluck my eyebrows, pluck my toes, shave my underarms, am contemplating waxing or bleaching my upper lip, though I don't think it needs it yet, and just generally go after whatever I don't like. Everyday.
I am okay with other people doing whatever they want with their own bodies, but I personally am not very attracted to it, and I feel like an unkempt, ungroomed, unwashed grosso when I have extraneous hair anywhere. To be clear, I don't think other people are automatically like that, I just have my own underlying nagging feeling that things aren't right when I am like that.
I also prefer guys hair-free...my dh has very sparse beard growth, a joke for underarm hair, NO chest hair, and only leg hair on the calves....I am sooo happy with it! LOL I seem to be attracted to very immature-looking men, if you can't tell...hmmm..

I've got the super hairy gene - don't know where it came from - both my parents are the hairless variety - my Dad doesn't even have any hair on his chest (neither does DH thankfully - I can't stand hair). I use an epilator for my legs (Braun Silk epil), and shave my underarms. During winter I don't bother doing my legs - and right now my legs are hairier than DH's - I'm not kidding lol....
I hate having to do my legs....just wish I wasn't hairy - none of my sisters are hairy either.....

I just don't like it where I've got it, ya know? That's waaaaaay aside from whether it should be there or not. (nature has obviously not ruled it out, so it obviously does belong there, or at least, doesn't NOT belong there)
Do ya cut your hair on your head when you think it needs a trim? Yep. I do. Not liking it there is a good enough reason for me to shave it/trim it.
Although, I fully support the devil's advocacy. :) Thanks for the added spice to the conversation. :)

Because of PCOS, I have hirsutism.
I have this also, I wax my upper lip and chin even though the hair is blonde just because it bothers me.
I trim my pits occasionally rather than shave them because it hurts to shave and I hate the whiskery in between stage.
I *hate* shaving my legs, so I just let them go...I have considered waxing to thin them out a bit like Allison was saying, but am a wimp when it comes to pain! LOL! Its bad enough on the lip, I don't know if I could do both legs too - but maybe it hurts less on the legs? I think I'll bite the bullet and try it.
