we want to go together, and my children havent ever been to the ocean. i would like to go somewhere warm/hot- virginia, north carolina, georgia or east coast.

is there anyone here who can recommend an area or a house for rent for a week? there would be 9 of us. i dont want to go some place overly commercial, and would prefer not to be at a super busy tourist spot.

thank you! this will be the kid's first time south of PA, and i want to make it really special for them.

pm me if you would prefer.

have a wonderful week!

We are looking at going to Myrtle Beach, SC at the end of July, along with two other spots. There is this really cool resort called Sea Mist that has an onsite water park. Go here: www.seamist.com There is a package deal at the time we are going that has daily passes to the water park, unlimited use of mini. golf, breakfast(46 item buffet), daily championship golf(we won't use), passes to Family Kingdom Amusement park for each night., and daily passes to Family Kingdom Oceanfront Water Park. This, though, is just for 2adults, 2 kids, and it is $571 for 4nights. Not sure what it would be for 9. Just look at that site & I'm sure it'll have more info.

We are also thinking about Virginia Beach. You can go to vbhma.com and get more info. I haven't really researched this area, but I have an Accommodations Directory that I've been looking through.

Then, of course, it's not the EAST coast, but we may just plan on going back to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL. We know that area really well & like it alot.

Good Luck finding a place. Be safe & most of all have LOADS of fun!!!

We usually stay at the sea mist when we go to Myrtle. It is very affordable and they have always had clean rooms. They have a lazy river and a few waterslides on site.

If you are looking for something quiet and simple, then check out Carolina Beach http://www.carolinabeachgetaway.com/indexg.asp

and The Outer Banks

the north carolina outer banks are really great - LOTS of beaches all up and down the coast.

charleston is really nice - not too touristy, and a LOT to do - lots of history...

we also went to edisto island once (i think that's what it's called) and it was AWESOME.

savannah is GORGEOUS and TONS of history.

Well if you ever come to the Jersey coast, you could always stop here on the way! :D
We vacation every year on LBI (Long Beach Island) nice quiet beaches, but also plenty of fun stuff to do, arcades, pizza places etc. :)

Cheryl~Long Beach Island brings back so many memories for me:) I need to get up there soon.

Amity~How about Cape May, NJ? I don't know how busy it gets in season though.

Have fun planning!

My 1st husband and I stayed at the above house on the beach, which is located in Nags Head, North Carolina. We celebrated our 1st anniversary there back in 1982. At that time the house was running around $1,000 for a long weekend.

There are some nice family beaches in southern DE. South of Rehoboth, I'm trying to remember the name of the state park there but we saw dolphins last time we went :) And it's only about 10 min north of Ocean City, MD if your older kids want to check out the boardwalk.

Ahhh, dh looked it up, Fenwick Island State Park is just beautiful beaches & views, no built up commercialism.

jekyll island, ga is great. it isn't overly commercial at all...but there is a really neat playground on the island and there are bike paths all the way around it. you can rent bikes there. there are lots of houses and hotels and condos...different choices.

my dh's parents have a condo down there. it's great.

we went to Ocean City, Md last Sept. I love to go in teh off season, not so busy, better prices, lots of sales at the stores on the boardwalk.

The best part of the trip was Assateague Island. We only spent 1 day there, but it was gorgeous. There are no hotels or anything right on the island (we were only about 15 min. from there in OC), but you can camp there if that would interest you.

The beach was so different from the OC beach. I was shocked at the difference for all the further away it was. The horses and deer were so cool to see. The horses would walk right up to you, kinda freaked me out at first. They went right out on the beach. You can go crabbing there, which would've been cool, but my littles were too little to hang out that close to the water.

I would love to go there and camp for a few days. Absolutely gorgeous! here's a pic for you, i have more if your interested. Oh, and the wind was blowing pretty bad right then, thats what the faces and weird poses of the girls are for.

ANOTHER vote for the outer banks NC. I took my family there last summer and met up with Jenni and baby grace and jack for a week. We rented a beach house. It was about a block from the ocean. Loved every minute of it and cant wait to go back there.

I was going to suggest Myrtle Beach as well.

I would not choose Myrtle beach if you are looking for something not commercial. The barrier islands of NC are nice Holden BEach, Ocean Isle we always go to Oak Island (not really comercial but close to South Port and a ferry ride away from the NC AQuarium at Fort Fisher). All of the barrier Islands are fairly reasonal as far as prices and you shoud be able to get rent a house to accomodate everyone.

My other suggestion if you want VERY NON COMMERCIAL is Kiawah Island. A beautiful Low country setting. It's rather spendy but well worth it if you are looking to enjoy the beach.

I just love the beach...

I live in Virginia Beach, so if you have any questions just ask away. I agree with the mama who recommended Sandbridge. It's nice and not all too touristy, but close enough to attractions to have fun.

If you have any interest is coming a bit further up the East Coast ( Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine) I could recommend tons of great places. PM me if interested. Just a note though, the oceans up this far don't warm up until about July
