She cut it last Halloween. I mean right off in the front so it looked like some Joan Jett punk mullet. It is starting to grow out now but it still looks like shyt. I mean it bugs me every time I look at her it is that awful. She of course doesn't care but I do, and we will be doing spring pictures soon. ( we disguised it in Xmas pics with a beret) Back in Oct. her therapist said not to have it trimmed to fix it for her b/c then she is not learning anything from it. Well, I think enough time has gone by that she is not going to associate a routine hair cut with fixing her mess. But that is not my big concern. Am I just being selfish by wanting it to look better? Should I just leave it alone? It is not so bad when it is pushed back in a headband but she never leaves the headband on and I cannot send her to school with hair clips or barettes b/c she takes them out and plays with them during class. ( ADHD) Anyway, I am rambling now. WWYD?
If she cut it 4 months ago, surely you can play it off as just a regular haircut by now? And you said she doesn't even care what it looks like, so I don't see how it would be a problem to make it look better. If she doesn't mind how it looks, what was the therapist's point in telling you not to cut it?
(of course, take what I say with a grain of salt because I let my son's hair get so long that people were asking if he was a boy or a girl because I was waiting for him to WANT a haircut. He's such a pain for the stylists if he doesn't want a haircut that I just ignored it.)

If she doesn't care, then what is she supposed to be "learning" from it anyway?
Personally, I think that is a bunch of nonsense. Does the therapist think she's supposed to live like that forever so she can remember her mistake? I'd hate to have to live with some silly reminder of any mistake I've made just so I can know I made a mistake and "learn" from it. Everyone makes mistakes. My opinion is that if it can be fixed, then fix it. Cutting one's own hair is not a matter of life and death. I've been know to do it myself as an adult with unsatisfactory results. I didn't walk around with it looking like that for months, I had it fixed by someone who knew how.
No offense, but life is too short. Surely there are better lessons to be teaching.
