What type do you have-what do you like-dislike about yours. Would you get something different if you could change?
I have been thinking of getting an ipod-but I don't know much about the whole mp3 thing and now am wondering if I should just go for a cheaper version.
TIA

I love my Creative MuVo Slim!!! Its the 256MB version, I do wish I would have gotten the 512MB one, though I have a little over 40 songs on mine. What I LOVE LOVE LOVE about it most is that it has a lithium battery that charges through my pc!
Here is a link to it http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=215&product=10052
HTH!

I have the Creative MuVo 128mb, and while I like it just fine for cruising around with, byumommy's one sounds better, esp with the lithium battery. I buy large packs of AAA batteries, and run through them regularly.
Go for the most meg you can afford, cause it can get frustrating sometimes when you are putting a playlist together, and the space runs out.
The only other thing I don't like is that I can't order the playlist how I like it. I just have to take it as it comes.
I am upgrading soon, though, to an iPod. It's my b-day soon, and dh wants to get me one. I will get a 20 gig; he already has a 40 gig. I don't need that much space for myself!

ITA! It alphabetizes the list, you can't put it in the order you want. The only drawback I can think of right now.
I just can't justify spending so much on an iPod .... seems like you are paying for all their advertising & to be "hip".

I don't think mine even does that. Maybe it does sometimes, and other times, I don't know what it does! The last batch I put in went to the end of what I already had on there. Other times it organizes another way, maybe the way you were saying. I just don't get it!
Re the iPod, they ARE the cool, in thing to have, but they also really ARE cool to use. Aside from the fact that the storage size is huge, managing your songs and playlists is sooo easy, loading onto the iPod is soo easy, and then there are the cool options like the little doohickey you attach to the top, and then you tune to a certain frequency on the car radio, and you can listen to your iPod on the radio; and the little speaker gadget that you stick the iPod in, and you can listen to it on some really nice speakers.
They are putting a lot of effort into staying at the top of the market, so nobody can undercut them. As a result, right now, they have the best product on the market, and they keep working to keep it that way.
I just really love it, and want to get one, after trying out my dh's one, and he got one after trying MIL's Mini.

I love my ipod. I really like itunes too, the program it comes with because I can easily download all my music onto the computer and at work it is great not to fuss with cds. I thought that for the storage capability, the ipod is top-notch.

I  my iPod mini. I use the hell out of it. I *had* a Lyra and I loved it too. Make sure you don't get one that has to convert the music to it's own format to play it because that is a PITA.
I also  iTunes.

DH got me an ipod mini (pink!) for my birthday and I really love it. He has a 20 gig that he got from freeipods.com. I like my mini better but I don't have as much music as he does. We have a mac and we love itunes. The other thing is the little itrip thing so you can transmit from your ipod into your car radio (or home stereo). Makes it soooo nice on car trips.

It's about $80 here, so I would imagine $40-50 over there.

dh just got an ipod. before that he had a iriver cd-mp3 player (like this one-- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48683&item=5750615582&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW&tc=photo ). The sound is superb. You can load a cd full of mp3 tracks and then jsut swap em out. They are a much cheaper alternative to mp3 players if you are looking to spend less money. Dh has coveted an ipod for abt 3-4 years, so when we got our tax refund, i went and bought him one. if i were to go with the mp3 player, and I was a regular person (ie not my dh, lol) I would get an ipod mini. If I wanted soemthign cheaper with lots of features that souded great, I would go with the iriver.
BTW, if you are intrested in lightly used, I am selling dh's player for 65.00 ppd. it is the slimx- imp350.

Oh, I certainly wasn't implying that you need a Mac. LOL We just of course use itunes as our default because we have one.
Our itrip was about $30.

Oh, just to add, we had bunches of cd's too scratched to play well or all of the way through. Apparently when you download them to your computer it cleans up the music, so now we can listen to things on our ipods that we haven't been able to listen to for years. Of course, you could also reburn them to cd.

I have a Creative Lab's Muvo TX 256, and I quite enjoy it. I don't mind the playlist part, I just keep mine on random :)

yes I transmitt to my car radio too. but I have XM radio so I could do that with the Lyra too by plugging the transmitter cord into the headphone jack.
I bought the $99 pack at CompUSA that charges and plays my iPod in the car. it has all sorts of ways to mount it as well.
