Dd got sick Saturday night and puked all over everything. She'd had sushi for dinner, so now all the laundry smells like nasty fish puke. It's been washed twice, with baking soda and oxyclean, and it still smells. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

baking soda is good for getting out smells, as is borax and oxyclean

I think I'd be considering the febreze laundry wash stuff. Sometimes you just need to bring out the big guns, lol. Good luck!

I might try another round of baking soda first. I'd sprinkle the bs on dry, rub it in a bit and let it sit. Then I'd shake the clothes and such outside, place in a tub or sink of water, and dump a whole box of bs in, lol. I'd let them sit for several hours and then try washing a few more times with no detergent or anything, just rinsing essentially, maybe a vinegar rinse at the end of the last wash.

If that didn't work, I'd go for febreze, or Natures Miracle, available at a pet store. If it can get cat puke smell out of carpet, it should work on dd's clothes, lol.

I would soak it in some sort of an enzyme cleaner (Biz, bacout, that kind of thing).

Im' so sorry mama! I have a head cold this morning and I'm in a fog. I *really* should have read your post more closely. I don't know how I missed that you tried two of these! Again, I'm sorry!

No ideas for you, just impressed that your dd eats sushi :)

Good luck getting the laundry clean and fresh!

Okay, I did some searching online, becuase I thought there must be lots of people who work with fish who have to remove that smell often. All the things mentioned here were what was recommended. The only other thing mentioned was using salt and vinegar. They did say washing like 4 or 5 times was usually needed.

Good luck. I hope you get it out and your dd is feeling better.

Sportwash! It's in the camping/ hunting aisle. It took the smell out after Willow dumped a whole ( smaller thank goodness!) bottle of perfume on herself.

My DD also eats Sushi and has done that too! I used 2 cups of PineSol in my wash and then gave it an extra rinse and rewashed with my detergent. Did the trick for me. HTH

Thanks so much for all the replies! My MIL watches the kids at my house, and she was going to use her special magic on it, and if the smell is still not out when I get home, I'll try all the tips here until something works!

I'd say try Lestoil if the other stuff doesn't pan out.

What is Lestoil?

My MIL bleached (yuck!) them and the smell is gone. Now I have to wash everything again to get the bleach smell out. But at least the smell is gone.

Thanks everybody!

Use vinegar for the bleach. Vinegar neutralizes bleach.

Oh, and the bleach could be a temporary fix since bleach seems to do that. If it comes back I would go back to an enzyme since it is organic it would be good to just get it eaten out of the fabric.

Lestoil is a cleaner you'd find in any grocery store. Not natural, but can work for stains and other laundry purposes.
