A 2 year old who wants to poop on the potty and then won't allow help with having her bottom wiped. She has to do it herself. (If you can imagine - yuck) Then, she won't let me help her wash her hands properly! (double- no, triple yuck, yuck, yuck!!!) What the heck am I supposed to do now???

We don't leave the bathroom until mommy does both. So we can sit there together doing nothing in the bathroom until she decides mommy is going to help her clean up or we can clean up really quick and start playing again. She can make the choice.

Plus when my dd is like that, especially when she was 2-3 yrs old, I have taken many microbiology classes and can even gross out a 2 yr old with why we need to wash our hands and have mommy help clean up.

I have a 5 yr old who has always been extremely independent in what she does and wants to do it herself, so I totally understand, lol.

my dd was like that

I have a box of wipes next to the toilet and told her she needs to wipe until the paper is clean.

for the hands I filled the sink with water and had the soap and a brush there for her to 'play' with. maybe have her put on hand sanitizer on at the end as 'lotion'.

she needs to do a good job at both or I need to help. or let her have her turn then its your turn.

spirited kids are fun aren't they

good luck

My 4.5 yr old has never done this. I have to almost MAKE him dress himself and wipe himself (trying to get him prepared for kindergarten next year). My dd, however will shriek and scream. She will have a COMPLETE meltdown if I try to help her do ANYTHING she doesn't ask me to help with. ARRRGH!!!

i explained to ds when learning about the potty that germs are yucky & gross & he did NOT want them on him. - that worked LOL.

dd is good too & they both wash their hands each time they go ~ ofcourse i still double check her..lol.

DS knows he has to wipe and wash hands after he goes potty. He gets a sticker on his chart for both. ;) He got in the habit of washing his hands at school, so now he asks to wash them when he eats, goes potty, or whatever. We have some kids soap in the bathroom for him to wash his hands.. it's the foaming kind and he doesn't seem to mind. He won't rub his hands together very well, so I have to help him, but I very firmly insist that he washes hands before we leave the bathroom, and so far it's not been a huge struggle for us..
